Originally published at: Why Trump’s Approach to Affordability is One Big Illusion - TPM – Talking Points Memo
President Donald Trump rose to prominence in part because of voter perception of his business and economic acumen, and his populist appeals to a coalition of mostly white, working-class voters who’ve long felt locked out of economic mobility by Democratic policies perceived as elitist and out-of-touch. Nevermind that Trump was born to rich parents and…
It’s not a concern of his or anyone he knows, his lack of empathy is notorious.
“It’s easy for Iran to keep fighting, no matter how badly they’ve lost.” “Their military is 100% destroyed, even though enough of their military remains to blow up ships and buildings.”
He’s not just lying all the time, he’s telling nonsense lies all the time.
Elect a clown, get a circus.
“He thinks he has a political problem but not a policy problem,” Michael Negron, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress who studies affordability, told TPM. “And so you can see that in the policy ideas, because either they’re often not attacking the central problem or they’re small or complicated and not really going to do much for people.”
As a political problem, it’s all about a sales pitch, the terrain the folks around this White House are most comfortable on.
Helping most people out with policy doesn’t seem to be their forte.
In fact, tariffs are a regressive tax increase that Donnie enthusiastically seeks to impose by fiat. In and of itself, it is emblemmatic of his concerns about affordability.
Tariffs increase his power and are disproportionately paid by people poorer than himself.
To address this inequity, he disingenuouly crows about their benefits and lies about who pays them. That is, he treats them as a ‘political problem’ that he can redress with a scammer’s pitch.
…in the two weeks since Trump and Israel launched their war on Iran.
Not since the US and Israel, TFG and Israel.
Oh, and the war that’s already over - that we already won! - he’s “delaying” is trip to China to meet with Xi because he needs to be in DC while the war is going on.
Trump’s plan for fixing the economy: Tell everyone that it’s been fixed.
Trump’s plan for winning the war in Iran: Tell everyone that we’ve won.
Trump’s plan for world peace: Tell everyone that we’re at peace (and get a Nobel Prize for saying so).
And so on.
Let them buy mansions in Newport.
President Donald Trump rose to prominence in part because of voter perception of his business and economic acumen And the stupidity of the American voter who believed that bullshit
FIFY
WHEN was the last time that entitled fat cow paid for anything?
From the accompanying photo, looks like the f’er has trouble staying awake even when he’s “dancing”.
The Somnolent War of 2026.
I say that Donnie’s insufferable dancing to “YMCA” is definitely a High Crime and Misdemeanor, i.e. an impeachable offense!! C’mon!!!
*“Almost by design, it leaves out…”
“Almost.” Good one!
"Once we start favoring certain kinds of income, we introduce inequities in the tax code that feel bad for people, and they are bad from a policy perspective,” Patel said.
Oh, like favoring “capital gains”? " Carried interest"? All those tricks and treats for the top 1%? That’s who we lower level folks need to be “suabbling” with, not one another.
Exactly. Even though it seems to be rarely mentioned now, the old GOP favorite of a flat tax would never work because the GOP can not or will not define “Income”.
Wages - Yes
Dividends - No
Interest - No
Capitol Gain - No
Stock Options - No
Isn’t income anything that ends of in your “wallet”?
Nope, some incomes are better than others.
trump is our first Fannee Doolee president in that he hates war but is also a war monger.
MAGAs and humans in this country are facing many new and improved higher prices on top of already higher prices. We the peeps are tightening our belts while TSF spends like a Sailor on shore leave. His lies about how good it is going to be and his crackpot Administration do not inspire hope or confidence. He makes war for fun.
I always tip in cash, so they don’t have to report it.
Elect a dotard, get shit show.
I think we - and the world - would be better off if Americans HAD elected a clown…
… instead of a criminal … with severe psychological problems…and accelerating dementia …
