Why Don’t Republicans Sound Excited That Their SCOTUS Picks Might Fulfill GOP Promises? | Talking Points Memo

As a candidate in 2016, President Trump vowed that if he got the chance to fill seats on the Supreme Court, a reversal of the monumental abortion rights decision Roe v. Wade would “happen, automatically.”

If she won’t, like, outlaw abortion, like, tomorrow, Ofjesse is a very pretty mommy who didn’t abort her Downs baby and loves Jesus, and even orphans from shithole countries. That’s enough.

All these Republicans are bull shit liars, they know they are lying, we know they are lying and the nominated judges know they are lying. Stop the sherade.

”Trump’s about-face is the latest example of what happens when the GOP’s promises to its social-conservative base collide with the political risks of those promises becoming a reality.”

Sooner or later, even a cat catches on that it’s only a laser pointer.

Because the dog was never supposed to catch the car.

The car was always supposed to stay just ahead of the dog so that the one-issue voters would stay in line.

So, are the Republicans lying about what Barrett is likely to do, or lying about their support for actions that clear majorities of voters hate?

“There’s nothing happening there,” Trump said.

Nice of him to unequivocally confirm everyone’s worst fears.

Deep down inside, the Repubs would hate for Roe to be overturned because they would lose all that sweet, sweet funding and support. They like having Roe right were it is.

I found it depends on how often you use the pointer. Once every four years keeps the mystery alive.

The quote above saying slim changes to over our R v W and ACA is pure bullshit to calm the pro-choice and those concerned about healthcare. They will get rid of both abortion rights and healthcare then go after marriage equality. They have been saying it for years why would they change their minds?

Not only that, their whole power grab has been predicated on capturing state legislatures to enable their national grabs. No harm to the 20 or so states that have passed laws outlawing abortion while they were meaningless, overturning Roe means they’d be in effect, and the backlash would cost lots of seats and legislatures.

Upends decades of delicate planning that got them here.

The panic is simply because Republicans have caught the car, and realize that in doing so they are just adding to the likelihood that they will be pushed out of power. Americans are in favor of Roe, the ACA, and taking those away is going to piss them off. This is all showboating before the election, to try to keep the Senate…it’s their only hope of having influence going forward, because they are like to lose more Senate seats in 2022.

And, the people are fed up with all of this gamesmanship on their part, forcing through a justice right now is really bad optics for them. They hope by winking that Barrett really won’t undo the things she has already said should be undone that they will fool enough people to win Senate seats. We really should make sure they don’t pull that off at every turn.

My cat figured it out in 30 seconds and won’t even look at it now.

Cats.

At a visceral level, this tells me that Democratic votes and voters will be counted, in the collective opinion of the GOP.

I would guess the latter.

However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Barrett had an about-face once on the Court. SCOTUS is one of those “last jobs you will ever have” positions. We all keep thinking that Trump/GOP is using Barrett to get their desired judicial decisions, but its entirely possible Barrett is using Trump/GOP to get on the court.

Crazier things have happened in 2020.

Once the ACA and Roe v Wade are gone, how will they energize their base? What’s left? Buy an island and send all the black and brown people to live there so the white people can have “their” America?

If so, that’s an entire career of writing legal articles and giving speeches to build up a false identity. Seems unlikely. And the Federalist Society would demand their money back. With interest.

Why won’t these Republican baby killers agree with Donald Trump, Hallowed Be His Name, that Roe will be overturned?
