And to think we used to put people like Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen in prison for life for the kind of behavior they snuck around doing as spies for the Russians. Rudy is doing his shit in broad daylight and nobody does anything about it. We all just watch with horror.

It isn’t?

Glenn Kirschner, former federal prosecutor, suggested on MSNBC yesterday that Rudy was in Ukraine to try to shore up his defenses for when he is indicted.

Sad, isn’t it. It has reached cult status. If trump starts selling Jim Jones Koolaid they’d all be gone.

LOL! So would the next administration work on the extradition or just leave him there to die.

Hey, there are a lot worse places to get stuck in than Ukraine. I’d be happy to stay in exile there.

True. Though I’m guessing he’ll probably just fall off a building somewhere when Putin is done with him. Easier to implement that in Ukraine.

@srfomgr The difference is that Aldrich Ames (not sure about Hansen) basically grabbed all of the files about our assets in the Soviet Union and handed them over to his KGB handler. I am led to understand that, early in his career, Gorbachev decided to pick everyone up at once (which let the CIA know they had a spy). More interestingly, in the Reagan/Bush era, nobody seemed to care that the guy was tooling around in a new Jag and putting his new Argentinian wife (formerly his mistress) in a lavish lifestyle. Normally, I’m to understand that CIA field employees (aka spies) are required to report all of their personal life (e.g., affairs with non-US nationals) and the spooks know about things like legitimate private inheritances. .007 might have been an embarrassment to MI5 but his loyalty was not questioned.

@castor_troy not if you’re a corrupt mobbed up ex-NY pol. The Ukrainians might leave him alone, but not their organized crime community. And he might have trouble getting a lot of his assets there. The Russians might already have won just by keeping the Ukraine out of the EU.

…Not seeing any difference between this and a certain president telling the russkie ambassador about a top-secret asset of Israel’s in the Middle East… Let alone all of those mysterious deaths in russia in the past couple of years that are clearly the product of russia cleaning house based on information they got from somewhere.

So are you saying he’s in the market shopping for a new home while he’s there on other business as well? I wouldn’t put it past him.

This piece leads me to think about Rudy’s butt dial back in October:

The voicemail yielded no details about the meeting. But Giuliani can be heard telling the man that he’s “got to call Robert again tomorrow.”

“Is Robert around?” Giuliani asks.

“He’s in Turkey,” the man responds.

Giuliani replies instantly. “The problem is we need some money.”

The two men then go silent. Nine seconds pass. No word is spoken. Then Giuliani chimes in again.

“We need a few hundred thousand,” he says.

So:

Who does Guiliani think will give them that money and what does he plan to do with it?

Wouldn’t put it past him either. I’m really amazed that he’d openly be going there right in the middle of impeachment. It’s like the murder defendant constantly going to check out the location of the shallow grave while the police are watching…

There is something incredibly self-destructive and self-defeating about him doing this at this time. People who are in the midst of freaking out do strange things however. Not sure if that’s where he’s at but all his recent interviews have shown him to be quite volatile, combative and just plain weird.

There is only one way to exit the mob once you’re in.

My money is that that’s where he’s caught now. Spent all this time getting his way inside to the mobsters, now he’s stuck, and they could give less of a shit of whether it’s personally destructive to order him around (this photo op on facebook ain’t for his benefit), whether that may make criminal charges more likely.

They have their agendas to work, he’s just a pawn.

It would have shocked me to learn that he was not meeting with someone associated with the KGB.
