White Nationalists Latch On To Climate Change For Mass Migration Hysteria | Talking Points Memo

Before slaughtering dozens of Muslims at a mosque in New Zealand and gunning down Latinos in a Walmart, two mass murderers cited one unifying cause in their manifestos: climate change.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1242611

So the actual crisis they don’t believe in (Climate Crisis) is the cause of the fabricated crisis (Hordes of Criminal “Others”) that exists only in their minds. Got it.

So, deny climate change and then erect a huge wall on the southern border. Then, what? - pray that the inevitable sea rise doesn’t get higher than their little white chinny chin chins?

Welp, they can burn off the entire Amazon (inhabited by fearsome brown people),

That’ll do it.

These clueless idiots could have been pushing climate related migration hysteria for years if they bothered to actually pay attention as the rest of us are already aware of this problem.

“There is massive non-white immigration into white nations because whites have built agreeable places to live,” Taylor told TPM.

“The Pequot, Wampanoag, and Mohicans did not return calls for comment.”

Does this mean that white nationalists will support development of renewable energy? Windmills? This could make Trump’s head explode.

How many people in America are starting to envision a hellscape in the near future that looks a lot like The Walking Dead with immigrants substituted for zombies and survivors all armed to the teeth with weapons designed for maximum killing.

These people are playing with the same fire they have always played with, but the nature of the internet and the structure of current mass communications is making many fringe thoughts turn into real movements. Some days I feel trapped between teaching my grandchildren about the importance of empathy and kindness toward all and warning them about the large amount of crazy people they are going to encounter, some of them within their own family.

Of course the crazy right will co-opt climate change for their own purposes. They co-opt everything, especially the problems they themselves have created in the recent past (huge tax breaks = budget deficits must cut programs), so why not co-opt climate change. With no memory and no shame you can do anything.

It’s nice that everyone is pitching in to fight global warming.

Or we could institute a carbon tax, and use that to subsidize alternative energy, while we invest in infrastructure improvements that protect vulnerable areas from the consequences climate stress. And we could direct aid and investment to the global south to help stabilize those regions politically and economically, to protect their environments, and to help move them away from carbon energy.

Just sayin.

“What happens to (cowardly little) white people (male ammo-sexuals) if climate change is real?”

They might finally get laid (without having to pay for it)?

The “arming ourselves against immigrants” line has already started.

Yep, I always say that the internet let all the village idiots find each other. It’s very sad.

Subscribers to my newsletter know that I’ve been promoting a talking point that appeals to bigoted lawmakers for a while now: countries with Those People are the first to get hit with climate change, and where you do think they want to go? The US. So if you want to keep Those People in Those Countries, you work with Those Countries’ governments on climate change so that Those People don’t flee and come here to continue speaking Spanish openly and bedding your sex-starved wives after a long day of picking that butter lettuce you’ve grown fond of.

It’s win-win: you don’t have to say it’s about immigration because you can say it’s about climate change. And when your redneck supporters start squirming, you assure them, “It’s about stopping Those People from coming here.”

Honestly, why is this so f*cking difficult to figure out?

My understanding is that a rain forest’s soil can not sustain growing crops without a lot of fertilizer. So the whole point of Bolsonaro opening up of the Amazon for crop production and beef production is not going last for more than 3-5 years without the farmers having to buy lots of man made fertilizers to keep production up.

O/T to climate change but still in the science sphere
I was watching the History channel recently when they did a show on the treasures of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The Egyptian government is opening a new Egyptology museum and they combing through the Cairo Museum for objects to pull out of storage and place in the new museum. So while watching this show I finally got the scientific/historic rebuttal to Rep. Steve King’s rape and incest comment:

“What if it was OK and what if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled those people out that were products of rape or incest?” he asked. “Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?”

The show mentioned that in going through all the artifacts that Howard Carter pulled out of “King Tut’s” tomb were two mummies of stillborn females that were placed in his tomb at the time of his death. So they ran the DNA and discovered that the two females were Tut’s daughters, daughters that he and his wife produced, sad but not the interesting part. Because these mummies were not stored for properly for DNA preservation then they took what they could, took DNA from Tut, and DNA from mummies in this Pharaonic dynasty lineage. And what they discovered was Tut’s wife was his sister, Tut’s father married and fathered Tut with his own sister, Tut’s grandparents were brother and sister and husband and wife.
So Rep. Steve King if incest was as common as you suggested then the 18th Dynasty wouldn’t have ended with Tut, who also suffered terrible deformities because of the inbreeding.
And yes I know most of you knew this type of stuff but it’s delicious that a Pharaoh’s mummy defeated Kings argument.

“There is massive non-white immigration into white nations because whites have built agreeable places to live,” Taylor told TPM. “If climate change makes the global south even more unlivable, that will be another reason to move north.”

The thing is…this is true! But building walls isn’t going to do much to stop it. Just another example of refusing to deal with the problem they created that’s coming back to bite them.

An excuse is why you say you do something and a reason is why you actually do it.

Racists are racists because of ignorance, fear and hate. That is the reason we have “White Nationalists” is because like all other races some White people are dumb and/or evil. As different excuses for being a “White Nationalist” become discredited, they look for other excuses. But the reason they are “White Nationalists” remain the same, ignorance, fear and hate.

“People need to be aware that the apocalyptic discourse around climate change can trigger unintended consequences.”

And you, Professor Hartmann, need to be aware that virtually ANY subject can be twisted to a white supremacist’s advantage. Remember the Obama years? What didn’t he get blamed for?

Yes! Climate change will drive migration because that is a human response to environmental stress. We could try to stop climate change and minimize global suffering, or we can just buy a bunch of guns because we want to play “Army.”

They make the temperate zone sound like a product of Caucasian industriousness, something those lazy darkies could never have produced for themselves (as if these benefits were not previously enjoyed by the Pequot, the Mohawk, etc. as another commenter pointed out).

Also, one would think, if they were really paying attention, that recent events in this country might erode that smug assurance that they will not become climate migrants.
