Whistling Past The Graveyard: Senate GOP Pretending So Hard New Justice Won’t Kill ACA | Talking Points Memo

You and others may not be able to afford coverage if they strike down ACA and throw us back into the shell game of “pre-existing conditions”.

I made it to Medicare age this year, so finally have basic coverage - but they’ll be after that if they’re given a chance.

Yup. I’m all for helping out people who need to be subsidized, but the ones who can afford it but choose to not get it raise my hackles when I end up subsidizing their healthcare.

This is the only option!

GOP Senators: it isn’t a 100% certainty that the new justice will be on the court in time to eliminate the ACA and its remaining protections in the November hearing, so it is absurd that the Democrats should even mention the possibility that the ACA will go away.

Every Senate seat up in 2020 should have a Dem candidate talking constantly about the GOP candidate killing health insurance protections.

You’ve provided the only ray of hope in an otherwise very dark and twisty day. Much appreciated!

I am sorry to hear that. May we find a way to save ACA or improve on it. Keeping a good thought for you and your sister. :kissing_heart:

If Dems gum up the works by demanding a quorum on everything, they can slow down the Senate. The GOP would need all but two of their caucus to appear while the Dems can call for a quorum and then run away. And there are 22 GOP senators up for election this year which means a lot of them would rather be campaigning and unavailable.

Here’s the thing. The Dems take the Senate & House and put the fine back in. Poof, the lawsuit is moot! This has only gotten more popular over time so let’s see them try to repeal it in the future. It will get improved with a public option as well.

I was thinking the same thing but haven’t been seeing anyone mention it so thought maybe I was overlooking something.

And when they do I don’t want to hear “no one could have seen that coming” when single-payer comes into play. I could see the insurance companies say hey yea lets go back to denying claims because of preexisting. Then about 3 months later suddenly realize that they have succeeded in eliminating all their customers. In a 3, 2, 1 heartbeat they ALL would be clamoring for single-payer.

You get what you sow, in the present case we get what the voters who sat on their thumbs because ____ in 2016 sowed.

What a naive headline. Whistling past the graveyard my ass! They’re in full on lying their ass off mode. They know what they’re doing. They have to feed the media a bunch of bullshit so the idiots at home will continue to believe everything is just peachy in D.C. Putin’s Party can’t believe their luck with the death of RGB. They’ll be dancing on her grave before the end of the week. Guaranteed!

If lifetime maximum gets the axe, so do I. My health care cost over the last 22 years? In excess of $3,000,000.

Republicans are ignoring the ACA implications in the same way they’re ignoring the 200,000+ American dead. It’s the old "I’ve got mine and I feel fine’ philosophy. And besides, now they can claim and embrace the Qanon theory that the death rate is grossly overestimated. A mere 6000 dead with Covid alone. All the rest? The comorbidity factors were the victims’ fault and/or these people would have died anyway.

Any reason to get upset with an uninsured America? Nah.

The pretending goes on and on and on. Until to get to the point where you’re nodding to this statement: There are more important things than living.

As in sacrificing yourself on the Altar of Commerce.

This is where we’re at in the good ole USA. The Republicans haven’t gone insane. They’re embracing fascism without hesitation. Trump was even so bold to introduce the ‘good gene/racehorse’ theory at a campaign rally.

‘Good genes in Minnesota,’ he said. ‘People like us have good genes, the best genes. Like racehorses. You ever hear that?’

Under those circumstances, it’s easy to dismiss the elderly, the sick, the disabled or anyone/everyone with preexisting conditions because they’re a drag on the economy, the super-duper best economy in the world.

The GOP must be not only beaten on November 3rd. They must be obliterated!

Medicare is perfectly constitutional. Adjusting the age of eligibility is totally within Congress’ powers. Make the age birth and the problem is solved…

All of us will die eventually, therefore murder shouldn’t be a crime.

The election matters. But what comes afterwards will matter just as much. Will we go back to pretending there are Good Republicans?

CNN had an article on it and it’s believed to be a conspiracy to cover the crime. The killer was already in jail when they attempted to burn the body.
