Where Each Conservative Justice Stands On The Theory That Could Upend Democracy

The Supreme Court will hear a case this term that could give state legislatures unprecedented power over federal elections and the laws that govern them.

I liked this article… but there is one thing that could have been added that would give a really good view as to how they conservatives might rule:

What does Leonard Leo think?

Yes the man of power behind the SC.

Why should the Court care about niceties like checks and balances when it has the power to enshrine permanent (Republican) minority rule?

OT: This is just insane and depraved. You have to wonder if Mitch regrets not stopping Trump when he has the opportunity.

Proponents of the theory read the word “legislature” in both clauses to exclude all the other machinery of government

That’s nuts, like Scalia saying he doesn’t see a right to vote in the Constitution. The entire document is about voting.

In the same sense, the entire Constitution is about the balance of power.

Forget your independence, conservatives. The Republican Party believes in absolute power by untouchable bureaucrats.

Yes. I think we have to hold Congress in the midterms, then do whatever it takes to save SCOTUS from itself. They’re so far gone, so out of touch, they can’t even see it. It’s like they’re in a bubble with no understanding of how average people live or their concerns or they simply don’t care. Which would be even more tragic.

“because he hates Donald J Trump, and he knows I am strongly opposed to them”

Trump is schizophrenic.

So gerrymandered legislatures that turn a plus 2 percent popular vote victory into a 2/3 supermajority of seats, and a minus 2 percent popular vote deficit into a majority, will now be supreme and uncontested. You’ve got to marvel at how effectively Republicans and the Fed Sci have found and mastered the hack codes to the game of democracy. Our only remaining hope is that they continue to put forward crazy people as candidates, so that maybe we get the 5 or 7 percent popular vote majorities that allow us to barely break even.

Hey Republicans hear all the other cool countries are doing the newest craze, absolute power by untouchable bureaucrats.

Some lessons have to be learned the hard way. By that I mean not effectively voting in 2016 when conditions were much better.

Poor donald has a sad.
He isn’t the center of attention so he hasta bad mouth Mitch’s wife.
And the bill he is whining about is gonna provide money to rebuild his state. Not that he gives a shit about Florida. And if Mar-a-Lago has any damage and he asks for a bit of $$ to fix a roof that is where the $$ would come from. Donald is not a deep thinker.

The Supreme Authoritarians have a goal in mind: destroy our democracy and instate authoritarian rule. No need for honesty in elections. Time to worship the Rump and his evil progeny and make sure that they are back in power. As for the handmaiden, no doubt she will go with her superiors. After all, she’s just a little girl.

OT.
There is another hurricane brewing. This time off the coast of Mexico in the Pacific. It has Mazatlan (a city I know very well) as it’s target.
