What We Know About Focus Of Jan. 6 Panel Public Hearings

With just two days to go before the debut of the Jan. 6 Select Committee’s public hearings, new details have emerged on potential witnesses and the focus of the first hearing.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1418420

Additionally, former ABC News president James Goldston has reportedly joined the committee as an unannounced adviser to help the panel with its public multimedia presentations on troves of explosive material

This seems like a Big Deal to me:

Cassidy Hutchinson, who has previously sat for multiple depositions with committee investigators, is expected to play a “starring role” in the hearings, people familiar with the matter told the Washington Post.

Hutchinson has reportedly provided the committee with extensive information about Meadows’ Big Lie activities. Hutchinson reportedly told the panel last month that Meadows knew that Trump was a fan of his supporters’ “Hang Mike Pence!” chants. Hutchinson also reportedly kept detailed schedules of activities in the West Wing and had extensive talks with Meadows.

Not the same as having Meadows himself, but just about the next best thing.

Who will appear in the roll of Alexander Butterfield?

Indeed, that stuck out for me too.

ETA: Allow me to expand on that. We have tons of information showing the planning and execution of both sides of the J6 insurrection, namely the electoral college shenanigans and the MAGA mob’s directed assault on the Capitol. What we have mostly lacked is information on who inside the White House was directing or joining those criminal conspiracies. Ms. Hutchinson is precisely the sort of person who could provide that information, and she’s clearly a cooperating witness.

The way you’ll know it’s a farce is when the Committee Opening Statements fail to mention Killary or !Benghazi!

I posit it is better than having Meadows.

I’m looking forward to Thursday.

Most definitely BETTER than Meadows. Meadows would dodge and lie and invoke the 5th in order to protect TFG, and himself. It seems like Ms. Hutchinson is appearing willingly and is prepared to testify openly. Let us hope.

The final hearing will reportedly focus primarily on Trump’s whereabouts before and during the Jan. 6 insurrection. The few remaining “bombshell” revelations in the hearings will reportedly come in the final hearing, a person familiar with the planning told the Post.

I imagine there’s also a coordinated plan to feed the media. Don’t just have them watch and report on the hearings. Feed them bigger portions of the best stuff than the time for public hearings will allow. Let them repeat, analyze, and discuss every associated act and piece of evidence during the course of the hearings. Then the grand finale and a riveting report before the midterms.

I hope Ms. Hutchinson is prepared to be “Vindmaned”.

(Because a GOP shytestorm of slutslandering, death threats – or worse – is about to head her way.)

I won’t be surprised to see a bunch of Republicans storm the hearing room to disrupt the hearing from taking place.
