If they’re smart they’ll steer way way way clear of the word “welfare.” Is this a TPM term for the article or are the Dems that dumb. Either way, let’s not load Mitch’s gun belt with the silver “welfare” bullet, ok?
They could call them “Socialist Freebies”. Better?
… from the pit of radical, leftist, pedophile hell.
Or maybe entitlements?
Not good enough
Obama Phones? Oh wait, they did that one already.
Better neighborhoods act
Freedom Housing
I’ll get Frank Lutz on it right away
Liberty U. Oh … wait.
The Republicans will not go along with the first, simply because it will do things about the environment and the fossil fuel lobbyists will shut that down. That’s even without the “obstruct everything” strategy the Republicans are pursuing. It is, of course, irrelevant that both of these bills will be huge benefits to the lower half of our economic system…but that’s a reason Democrats really have to push these through, and make sure the effects are known before 2022 as much as possible.
Oh, and keep your eye on the argument Republicans are making that Democrats just want to spend money so they can raise taxes…it’s obviously fraudulent, but it’s interesting watching them argue that we should do the things that Democrats want to do without paying for them.
Tell him to get me a coffee while he’s at it.
It would be at least one good thing he’s done for the country as far as I’m concerned.
It’s right there in the Constitution. Article I, Section 8, Clause 1:
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States
Call it the Providing for the General Welfare Act of 2021.
Sure that sounds awful when you say it that way I would lead with the pizza is delicious
How about taking care of deferred Federal maintenance?
The National Park Service has a $15 - 20 billion backlog of maintenance. US Forest Service trail maintenance need billions. Even throw in money for raking the Federal Forests.
Think about how many Congressional Districts that money would spread. Should be a no brainer.
How about really turning the table and calling it the Make America Great infrastructure act.
They won’t know whether to shit, whistle or sing
Uhhh, let’s start with $12 trillion, and settle for $6 trillion …
One thing we know about it is that it’s real, unlike some other infrastructure things in recent history.
Kind of like Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop in Sweeney Todd?
AmeriCAN wake up juice to you
Or, maybe, we can trick ‘em:
“the Donald J Trump Memorial Infrastructure Week Act”
