Morning Puppy
The solution to the SCOTUS is simple. Vote like your life depends on it. It does. And if enough voters do that TGF will be crushed at the polls like the little verm…, bug that he is.
“If fascism is a disease, then the United States is a vulnerable, immunocompromised patient unaware of its own risk, unwilling to alter its behavior to protect itself, and working hard to convince itself that everything will be fine.”
Every damned time the future of American democracy is discussed it’s said people need to wake up, see what’s coming or at least what’s possible, and proactively do something about its demise. Perpetually ignored is the reality a helluva lot of people welcome fascism, and that’s what they’re actively working towards and looking forward to. For half the adult populace looming fascism is not a troubling issue, it’s a goal.
Works for me!
SC revealed how little they knew - and how utterly resistant they are to learning - completely uninterested in opening the doors to understanding.
The point of hiring a special counsel was to place maximum distance between the DOJ and the sitting President when that President is being investigated, to maintain objectivity. I’m assuming Garland didn’t edit the report because he’s still trying to maintain that distance and look objective.
Hur might have raised a stink about the AG interfering, making the situation even worse with Garland looking like he was trying to protect Biden. The fault was in hiring this partisan hack in the first place. Garland should have known better.
Their cartilage is showing.
I understand what you’re saying, but I’m gonna have to disagree here. Keeping the report under wraps would have inevitably led to accusations of conspiracy and coverup, which would have been far far worse. It’s February. It was a written document, not a nationally televised press conference, as with James Comey in 2016. Call me a naive optimist, but I think this will be long since forgotten by Election Day.
Yes
Funny how in the Dobbs case (above all) as well as many other recent cases, SCOTUS is so agonizingly concerned over federal “overreach” and has handed significant powers back to the states.
Except when a state invokes the Fourteenth Amendment and its own well-established control over elections to disqualify Trump.
Funny how that works – always a one-way street.
Excerpt:
According to research by Accountable.US, a non-profit that focuses on calling attention to special interests in US politics, Leo has ties – including professional associations, funding through his own groups or those he’s exchanged money with, and allies in the Federalist Society – to a handful of groups that filed amicus briefs against Trump’s removal.
The ties are part of a pattern, documented by Politico, of Leo himself and his network being connected to amicus briefs in high-profile supreme court cases in recent years. The Politico review also found “multiple instances of language used in the amicus briefs appearing in the court’s opinions”.
Does anyone have the phone number of Dr. Robert Hur, memory care expert on aging? I need to ask him about “not getting fooled again”
Let’s stop pretending that Garland was ever the Sword of Justice. He may not be reprehensible or on the same level as the worst AGs; but he is not what the moment required. (ETA - that’s on Biden and his advisors, as well).
We have endured years on the forums with people, once again, telling us about keeping powder dry or keep-the-faith or shut-up-and-wait-for-it stuff. And excoriating anybody who questioned WTF he was doing. Perhaps hammering on folks who said “this isn’t enough” and slurring them about Unicorns and Eeyores should be tamped down.
Chump is going to use the Biden investigation resulting in no charges to move for dismissal in the Mar-A-Lago docs. The SCOTUS may have taken the term “Insurrection” off the table with yesterday’s results. All of Chump’s 100s of crimes as Prez are coming down to 1-2 crucial cases that DID manage to draw charges and as usual, balance on a knife’s edge because all it takes is one juror. Holding our breath and hoping is not sustainable…but let’s be clear-eyed that our system is woefully inept and inadequate when faced with 2/3rds of the populace’s indifference, and one whole party’s playbook being Crime Only.
As one of Josh’s longtime readers put it in yesterday’s EdBlog
" Merrick Galrland is a disastrously bad AG. He has appointed special counsels he never should have. And he had no business allowing a report to be released that violated DOJ guidelines. Most of all, his two years of fruitless propitiatory delay moving on the elite insurrectionists has America and the world on the doorstep of disaster.
…American liberals are nice guy sleepwalking into fascism."
Feudalism?
The Feudalist Society. It’s more accurate isn’t it?
I have nothing to add to Josh’s comments yesterday about the Hur report. There is no such thing as a fair Republican, certainly not one under 60 – they’ve all swallowed the Federalist Society/partisan bathwater. Talk about gratuitous.
I didn’t see Biden’s press conference and, naturally, all I see today is about his confusion of Mexico and Egypt’s PMs (or whatever it was). Which bugs me, but not as much as the pass the press (and GOP supporters) keep giving the orange guy for literally KNOWING NOTHING.
We’re in deep doo-doo, to borrow a phrase from someone. I’m glad it’s only early February.

That “press conference” (that cut off the last response to the Jeopardy final) was a total shitshow. The reporters were more like a pack of howler monkeys than trying to ask legitimate questions. They did not cover themselves in glory.
…as in, no coverage at all yesterday until Josh’s editorial?
We have a special prosecutor who couldn’t remember he isn’t a qualified doctor, giving a medical opinion because he was hired by an Attorney General who can’t remember to enforce the law when it comes to people like cop killing insurrection leaders like Clarence and Ginni Thomas.
