What Price for the Soul of Democracy?

What I Got Wrong Writing about politics every day inevitably leads to an internal mental landscape full of regrets, self-recrimination, and second-guessing about how you covered the news, what you skipped that you shouldn’t have, and what you plain got wrong. I had anticipated only last month that Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general would…

Todd Blanche does not support or uphold the U.S. Constitution or adhere to the law. Instead, he supports and enables a thug advancing a thugocracy. He holds the interests of the American people in contempt. As such, he should be nowhere near the office of U.S. Attorney General. Frankly, he should be disbarred for his criminal behavior.

First? Nope.

Blanche is a lying liar who lies.

Gus is not amused at this Blanche nonsense, but is also not surprised. Trump has a death grip on the GQP and is strangling the country with it. Back to bed?

So, now we need ICE to ticket moving violations and uphold local traffic ordinances, too?
Oh, and, will they get more training before they’re tasked with this job?

He was previously successful fighting a lawsuit from the State Attorney General

Musk’s attorneys argued in legal filings in 2025 that Musk was exercising his free speech rights with the giveaways and any attempt to restrict that would violate both the Wisconsin and U.S. constitutions.

The whole thing was proven to be not random at all, but didn’t notice that part mentioned. Good luck to the plaintiffs.

Good morning, gang.

As of Monday last, I’m officially retired. I wish it had been entirely my idea, and in fact I was planning to ease into retirement in 2027. But a RIF of contractors happened at the Pharma company I worked for. Things are pretty slow right now and the company I worked for wasn’t able to redeploy me on another project. I’ll say this: not having to go downstairs every morning and worry about other people’s problems has reduced my stress level a lot.

Todd needs to have the disciplinary referral to his local bar associations (issued by a federal judge just yesterday?) adjudicated before he should even be allowed to act as AG, let alone be nominated. [ed.]

Subpoenaing the law firms that bent the knee along with the ones that fought him clearly demonstrates there’s no appeasing his insatiable neediness. He’s so mercurial you can’t stay in his favor no matter how slavishly you debase yourself for him.

It sets a clear path that the only way to deal with him is to challenge him at every point. You’ll never win by submitting.

He may yet be disbarred or have his license to practice suspended.

That’s a big “yes”!

Yes!

And every GOP Senator, aka Yellow Bellied Cowards, should realize that if they vote for his confirmation they get no “Get Out of Jail Free” card.

The DOJ will come after any GOP Senator at the drop of a hat, if they annoy Field Marshall Bone Spurs in any way, shape or form. Der Field Marshall has no allies, only lackeys. And when a lackey is no longer of use, stab them in the back and toss them away.

Et tu, Thom.

I think ‘appetites’ is a better word than ‘neediness’ here.
Gluttony, for example, may be propelled by an underlying serious insecurity, but the sheer excess and destructiveness of it aren’t readily equated with those vulnerabilities.
I’d think the same can be said for what’s more traditionally thought of as sadism and greed.

He was then and will be forever his lawyer fixer.

The Newsground identifies the founders: a Baltimore Ravens kicking coach and a former commodities trader. Neither answers questions. The same day, The New York Times finds lines six cars deep, owners unknown, and some pumps already back up to $3.57.

GasBuddy, an app and online tracking resource for gas prices, has recorded prices of at least $3.57 per gallon at the majority of Freedom Fuel’s 25 locations as of Friday morning

Oh, and the White House has clarified that neither TFG nor the White House/administration had anything to do with these stations. Nope. Nada.

"The nomination is most hung up on the $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” slush fund, with Tillis insisting on a vote on standalone legislation to ban it before he’ll vote for Blanche. Note that he’s only demanding a vote, not passage.

This is one of those patented Capital Hill smokescreens, where a senator reduces a complicated, wide-ranging, multi-dimensional issue to a single high-profile element of that issue — then offers an easy way to talk him off the ledge on it. These kinds of maneuvers are so transparently about not taking a stand that I can’t believe they still work to fool anyone, reporter or voter. But clearly they still do, because they remain an invidious part of congressional politics."
… … … … … … … …
Politics is a soul destroying evil career but politics is apparently necessary for Congress to function. I follow what goes on but it frequently sickens me. None, not one fucking Senator or Rep. has any personal honor. They say they do but if they did the voters would reject them quickly.
