If the presidential election comes down to Pennsylvania or Michigan, it could take until Friday after Election Day — or maybe even later — for those results to be tabulated, the states’ chief election officials said Tuesday.
Ipsos has one out today on Michigan that has Biden up 8.
While its possible that there could be delays over days after the election, its increasingly seeming more likely that both will be called the night of 11/3. I am reasonably confident Florida will be.
Personally, I’m hoping it’ll be possible to call it a day on November 4th.
I really don’t expect the kind of delay that can be turned into a media spectacle; rather, I’m hoping for the kind of blow out that’ll take the Orange Shitgibbon’s mug off of front and web pages until the indictments start to come down.
More good news is that a lot of the states have been able to increase the number of poll workers by more than enough in big cities around the country. Some will also be working to count the ballots afterwards. Now if we can only make sure that the machines are all working properly ahead of time…and that there are enough of them in places like Detroit.
A lot of young people stepped up to the plate and applied to become workers to spare seniors that would be risking their lives as poll workers this year with the virus in full swing. My own middle-age sister volunteered to work her polling station.
Wouldn’t want to go in on the day of with a lot of ground to make up, so many things can go wrong, and if some people just decide it’s not worth their time to make the effort, no chance to catch them later.
It will be entirely a praying game. I guarantee you the republicans have no reasonable ground game, and I doing the GOTV push is a hard thing anyway. Made dramatically more difficult with COVID complications.
That’s the impression that I’m getting from the comments they’re making about the early voting totals. Every quote seems to be some variation of “oh, our folks all prefer to vote on election day”. Doesn’t sound like much of a plan to ensure people actually show up.
Well, even if they did have a plan, its an issue of having too much elephant to chew.
“Banking” early votes, be it early voting or votes by mail, reduces the size of the universe for your GOTV efforts. You always want to shrink that universe because you just don’t have time to reach everyone anyway. Relying on a “they will vote on election day” just makes that issue completely unworkable.
Factor in that republicans don’t invest and build field organizing teams, and they haven’t been building that + volunteers for months, means they simply won’t have the manpower necessary to handle even a “normal” GOTV, let alone one with a bloated universe.
This is where I normally kick in on my pitch for project management, because this IS where the real essence of it comes into play. It takes months of hard work and long hours to build up a team to be ready for GOTV. You cannot simply slap something together the night before.
That’s not enough for legal fees when they file civil suits against their own employees (embezzlement) so my dad is likely to get a few more fund raising requests (relying on those pesky postal employees).
