What Is PA’s GOP House Up To With Its Plans For A Sketchy Election Probe Panel? | Talking Points Memo

Pennsylvania’s Republican lawmakers aim to create a GOP-controlled select committee that would have the authority — including subpoena power — to investigate the 2020 election before it is even over.

I don’t get it. Why don’t republicans want people to vote?

And yet the Russia probe was just a “fishing expedition”?

One of the things I hate about republicans is that they make calls for violent political action more attractive.

Can’t the Governor veto it, or am I missing something?

This reeks of election interference. It has the filthy stench of Trump all over it.

Thanks for the national spotlight on these shenanigans in the PA Legislature.

One correction: Mike Turzai resigned as Speaker in June. Rep. Bryan Cutler ® is now Speaker. Both crackpots though.

Because they don’t want to lose.

They should put on hold until they are sure the Dear Leader is going to be alive to thank them.

If they were changing laws, then yes, but I don’t think he can affect the creation (and machinations) of a committee within the legislature. I think that most people are worried about the psy-ops aspect of the new committee, creating doubt and muddying the waters regarding the election’s integrity at this point. Admittedly, I don’t know enough about PA government to know what malarkey they could inflict on the process without the governor’s involvement.

I don’t know, guys. Why not just cut to the chase and pass a bill that deems all future votes for persons not registered as Republicans null and void? You know you want to. Everybody knows you want to. Just do it.

I don’t see this power grab withstanding even the most perfunctory legal challenge.

Our Governor in Pa, Tom Wolf, has a brain and tries to keep us safe with original thought.
The GOP house is a sinking ship with no freight to throw overboard.
They are mini Trumps with no ability to any thing but attack Wolf with no ideas of their own.

I suppose since their attempt at ginning up the nine (oops! seven) alleged Trump votes that were allegedly thrown out didn’t work, the PAGOP now have to start up some bogus committee to kick up dust over the election results.

And as a side note: judging by the results of this year’s Primary Election in PA, there’s a good chance that Republicans might lose control of either the PA House or Senate - possibly both. So if they’re gonna try to ratfuck this election, they are under an even tighter deadline than they believe.

Like they really know what they’re up to. It’s mindless tropism, not strategy.

Once again, A.L.E.C. rears it’s ugly head.

This is one of the “recommendations” in memos A.L.E.C. has been distributing to Republican Legislatures all over the country.

The other is to refuse to validate the election results, claiming “Fraud” and “Criminal Activity” and then move to have the Republican Legislature directly choose the “Electoral College Electors” to be sent to Washington to cast the Electoral College vote for President, making sure that ALL of them are reliable Trumpists who will cast their vote for Trump no matter what the actual voters wanted.

The other legislatures this is being pondered in are; Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, and Florida where the Republican Legislatures will do ANYTHING to ensure Trump wins that state’s EC votes.

Don’t think they can’t do this either. The Constitution ALLOWS this to happen, and if you think the SCOTUS will overturn anything like this, with a 6-3 Hyper-Fascist majority, you. are. dreaming.

Republicans don’t care about LAWS or TRADITION. They care about POWER, and will do anything to keep it.

Makes sense, since the PAGOP has been in ALEC’s back pocket for years.

This is the first I’ve heard of an ALEC initiative like this. So if this sort of planning has been going on, Trump is following script when he refuses to say that he’ll leave quietly.

Remember when it comes to the GOP it’s all about projection. They’re more likely to be forming this committee to hide their own crimes than to find any, all the while putting out press releases to fool the media when they manufacture something to pin on Dems.

According to the PA Department of State, voter registration totals are as follows:

Republicans: 3,182,066
Democrats: 3,724,300
Independents / Other Parties: 1,081,067

Now you see why Republicans don’t want people to vote.
