Exactly. There are probably still lots of Trumpists burrowed deeply into Justice, and the right wing bias of the NY FBI branch has been known for a long time. It’s likely that this whole thing was a setup.
Note in passing: had this erroneous story come out of the Fever Swamp of the Right, it would become gospel truth, even if debunked a thousand times, and enter the world view of the wingnut class. Sadly, it was meant to flummox the left, which has this inconvenient bias towards learning the truth, no matter how painful. In short, we lefties are perfect victims, with no defenses.

IANAL, so I hadn’t known that the “Ignorance of the law is no defense” statute was repealed during the last five years. This isn’t Don Jr, so it’s especially puzzling is that it’s a former hot shot prosecutor we’re talking about.

Ron Johnson admits to having gotten such a warning (and to having ignored it), but no one else? I’m not sure that makes a lot of sense, since the Russians were feeding false information to a whole range of useful Republican idiots.

In the late 1960s, the police chief of my home town got a complaint about inappropriate sexual conduct by an elementary school teacher/Boy Scout leader. He actually went to chat with the guy about it, and --surprise-- the suspect vehemently denied the accusation. The investigation never happened.
Years later, it was estimated the guy may have molested over a hundred kids.

I don’t see why the fact that the FBI never told Rudy he’s a fucking idiot and tool of a foreign aggressor would be any sort of exoneration. Especially if he was doing it intentionally. Allegedly.

It really doesn’t though. What news outlets report (and then actually correct) has no bearing on whether a case proceeds forward. All this does is allow Rudy to continue to say the media is lying. He was saying that anyway. And actually, it sounds like the reason he wasn’t warned is that doing so would interfere with prosecuting him for other crimes. This story makes things look worse for him. Good.
