Thanks, Kay-Lie. I choose to get affordable health insurance under Obamacare, because that is best for my safety. I choose to join peaceful protests in Lafayette Square, because I am sure that is quite safe. (What, somebody’s gonna come along and gas me right across from the White House?) And I choose to vote by mail this November, because I think that avoiding crowded polling places and germ-ridden voting booths is best for my safety. We good on all those?

It will be interesting to see the metrics on who is getting hospitalized in this recent surge. If the metrics swings white and younger than we can roll out that favorite rebuttal to police reform “when are we going to talk about white on white deaths”, or we can call it the Red Plague.
What it is is that Trump doesn’t want to be seen as “requiring” or “mandating” that his stale old peeps doing anything that might make them hate him. So Trump is nothing but a failed leader.
The WH staff cannot say that wearing a mask is the smart, sensible and sane thing to do for everyone since Trump himself refuses to wear a mask - which I still personally believe is because it would smear his makeup. But listening to how he breathes sometimes, it might also cause a slight panic attack and hyperventilation. Whatever the reason, it is equal parts stupid and deadly, so it is entirely consistent with the rest of his administration.
In the future, when people perform a “post mortem” on the U.S. response to this pandemic, they will not be kind in their assessment of the leadership or response.
I still find it hard to believe that this is supposedly the same country that I lived in 4 years ago.

Recall that time he cancelled a joint visit to a WWII memorial with other European leaders. The forecast was for intermittent showers and outdoors. The Canada-US border is closed.
