WH Says Tanden Will Be Given Another Admin Spot If Senate Sinks Confirmation For OMB

White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain said on Wednesday night that Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s embattled pick for director of the Office of Budget Management (OMB), will be offered another role in the administration if the Senate refuses to confirm her.

Good plan, move forward.

Give her @POTUS.

Appoint her acting director and move on. The last 4 years have shown us precisely how much the “advice and consent of the Senate” actually matters.

Make her the White House chief congressional liaison.

I’m pretty certain it was members of the press that chased down a tweet concerning Lisa Murkowski and shoved it under her nose to stir up the pot.

So, yeah. They want to treat it as a process.

The Senate is a broken and anachronistic institution.

And yet it has its not-very-insightful defenders.

Here we are.

I neither like nor dislike her. She’s being judged with an humungous double standard by (mostly) men who’ve been granted unwarranted political power by the sole criterion of being elected by very stupid people.

Yes. Hold the vote. No freebies. Make it hurt.

You know, this unidentified “she” could be many, many people.

Busted as designed, I think.

Apparently an individual needs to have been employed by the Administration for 90 days in order to be named “Acting.” That’s why trump was always moving people around and placing them in positions where he could control them. I guess he could do it down the line.

I’m with The President. (Nice to not have to say “President” ironically…) Don’t let the GQP get Ms Tanden’s scalp for their wall of trophies. Go for confirmation. Plan B only if necessary.

Joe Manchin just got put on notice.

Tanden may not get the slot…but the Biden Administration may have gotten more out of this than if Tanden sailed through. It did not roll over in the presence of GOP Bad Faith

We should all have PTSD from Republican Bad Faith…not just from the Trump and Obama administrations, but the Clinton one as well.

And to lift us up, sometimes a people (or an institution like the Democratic Party) have to institutionalize an aggressively hostile attitude toward Bad Faith (that the GOP excels at).

What the above means, in plain English is this:

(1) Dems learn thoroughly the history and effectiveness of GOP Bad Faith

(2) Dems–across the board–get testy when Bad Faith comes up

(3) Dems–across the board–recognize Bad Faith for what it is

(4) (1) (2) and (3)are written in the Dem Behavior Playbook

There’s a possibility that she was put forward as an intentional “lightning rod” for exactly this purpose.

Anyone appointed as an acting anything must have been confirmed by the Senate to some other position.
