WH Maintains It’s ‘Fighting For’ Tanden Confirmation Even After Hearing Delay | Talking Points Memo

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday insisted that the Biden administration remains committed to “fighting” for the nomination of Neera Tanden to lead the OMB, following the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s postponement of its confirmation hearing for Tanden.

This is silly. Manchin just wants to show his West Virginia constituents (none of whom trust Washington liberals) that he’s not just a Biden lackey but, rather, a true independent. He’s opposing this nomination solely for theatrical purposes and nothing else. The problem is that he has no real motivation to back down and, if the Biden administration wants to deprive Manchin of his “theater,” it will probably cost them far more than they would gain from just having her quietly slip away.

Let it go. There are lots of people who can do the job she’s been appointed for. This isn’t a hill worth dying on.

Clock’s ticking. I give it 24 more hours before Tanden withdraws her candidacy.

While I know this position is not popular here, It’s time to cut bait

If you don’t have the votes now, you are never going to have them. Calling people like Susan Collins ‘criminally ignorant’ may be accurate, but not how you get Collins vote.

If you need to delete several tweets before you appear for confirmation hearings, it’s not going go well.
It was a mistake nominating Tanden and she needs to put the country and party first and withdraw.

Enough already. We need a cabinet in place now.

Albeit, this is the House, there’s no question of the organized bigotry of the GOP towards just about anyone who doesn’t look and act like them and believe the same bullshit they do.

Completely disgusting gang of liars, miscreants, bigots and shitadders.

I think the only way Tanden gets the OMB job is if a few Senators have states that significantly benefit from well-targeted ear marks as part of an overall agreement. I don’t know how they could pull this off. Otherwise she’s going bye-bye. It’s too bad, too, because the stuff she tweeted was all true, unlike the crap that Satan’s Avatar and his lackeys spewed.

Moscow Mitch, fer shur.

Maybe. Biden won’t give up on her. If’s she’s dropped, it’ll be her decision. Biden, himself, will not reward Manchin for his gadfly bullshit.

Biden’s team is going to have to symbolically break somebody’s nose or windpipe - as this cannot be allowed to continue …
maybe Biden loses a nominee for “just cause” - it is possible - but some serious, serious imperfection would have to come out
… having a “sharp tongue” should not eliminate a competent highly credentialed individual
… AND the idea that the GOP can start dredging the harbor to pull up irrelevant muck to go about rejecting the minorities (when in truth - it is because certain Republicans sense that they have to pander to their white supremacist base) - well … that has to be clobbered right between the eyes !

This is not like the early 1960’s college basketball where coaches were made to understand that they could play a a negro or two … but they better still have at least 3 white boys on the court at all time …

Well, we might as well write off any cabinet officials ever, as the online generations are coming into power and damn, there’s a lot of nude selfies and inappropriate and vulgar language used.

Or we can de-weaponize the shit and stop grabbing smelling salts when someone posts “Voldemort” in a tweet.

Republicans are grilling another woman of color- Deb Haaland - over the coals. Gee. I’m beginning to see a pattern.

not everyone gets into twitter wars. It just seems that way when you spend time on twitter.

As a professional, you never post anything online that would embarrass you or your clients (who in this case are a future admin).

I agree. It’s becoming evident that minorities and people of color are being judged by far different rules. If Biden were to withdraw the nominations, he is tacitly accepting the double standard. In my opinion, fighting for these nominees to get a final up or down vote is a good hill to die on.

WVA voters don’t even know what OMB is.
They don’t give a rat’s round rear about Tanden, either.

Manchin is pissed because Tanden criticized his daughter for raising the price of Epi-Pens from $100 to $600 overnight.

Except that there’s an asymmetry here, since your “rule” only appears to apply to Democrats who are people of color. Sometimes pragmatism must give way to principle.

The other thing to remember is that the whole administration isn’t over if one nominee isn’t approved. This is (we hope) a long haul.

And abandoning Tanden would be one thing but …

Jen Psaki on Wednesday insisted that …

… to leave Psaki out on a limb as well would be no help at all.

And in an online world which never forgets, we’re handling out life sentences if you ever post the “wrong” thing?

I’m more suspicious of the individual who keeps their nose squeaky clean and never puts a foot wrong. Those fuckers can’t be trusted.

The merits are often not the issue in a fifty-fifty Senate.
