WH Impeachment Letter Highlights | Talking Points Memo

The White House’s written assault against Democrats’ impeachment inquiry read something like an extended Twitter thread by President Trump.

As a pundit said on TV yesterday, this letter amounts to Trump telling Pelosi “You’re not the boss of me!”. It almost literally comes down to that, and is exactly how Pelosi should, and I assume will, treat it, an incoherent and ridiculous screed by an immature and stupid child who refuses to submit to authority after being caught doing wrong. It also makes it SO much easier for Dems to win in court, and SO much harder for GOP judges to side with Trump, for fear of how corrupt and ridiculous it would make them look. No way is Roberts going to side with Trump on this, however much he’d like to (and I’m not at all sure that he’d like to–this is NOT the conservative revolution he was hoping for).

I don’t know that those are the gobsmackingest, because the whole letter is gobsmacking. But it would be nice to have a line after each one of those explaining why it’s complete crap.

The BBC is not talking so much about Brexit and it’s not talking about impeachment. But it is talking about Turkey’s invasion of Syria, and the destabilization taking place. 4 million people affected and an ethnic dimension. It’s not like the Kurds haven’t been warning of this worst-case scenario for a while.

The chances that this document did not originate on Stephen Miller’s computer are vanishingly small.

I love the parts where he says tRump was democratically chosen and that it would nullify the outcome of a democratic process. No you f’ing ninny, he was chosen by the Electoral College which was established because the founding fathers were afraid of real democracy. We are a republic because of that.

Most will still vote for him, being motivated far more by “culture” than policy. They vote to preserve “Waht rahts”, not jobs. They’d gladly be unemployed and on the dole and meth and fentanyl for 20 years than have to admit they’re not special because of their skin color and “way of life”.

re: the floor vote – inyesterday’s hearing on Judiciary Committee access to Mueller Grand Jury materials, Judge Howell made it clear that a House vote would be a good idea…

There is also a resolution (H Res 430) that authorized the Judiciary Committee to seek the grand jury material under its Article I powers — which includes impeachment, Letter said.

Howell at one point said a House floor vote authorizing an impeachment inquiry would make it “easier for all of us.”

I think you meant another part of Miller’s anatomy. His “computer” is a Commodore PET.

Screed?

I think of it more as a tweetifesto.

“Never before…” Jesus: this was written by Trump himself, or someone who is very familiar with the way he speaks. Which is to say, that apparently, the Johnson, Nixon and Clinton impeachments never happened. And, with how fucking historically illiterate Americans are, millions will believe it.
