WH Dodges On Potential Criminal Prosecution For Trump After Acquittal | Talking Points Memo

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday declined to weigh in on whether President Biden supports criminal prosecution of former President Trump, following the Senate’s acquittal of his role in the deadly Capitol insurrection last month.

This is terrible coverage of this “no duh” reply by the WH. It is NOT a “dodge” to say in essence, we leave DoJ work to the DoJ. For goodness sake that’s what we’ve been hoping for going on four years now!

Agree with mgoulet65. What’s with the skepticism on this site, recently?

Keep T**** and T**** klan guessing as long as possible.

Every knock on the door will make their pathetic lives a bit more panicky.

OT, but some well deserved combat pay…

I don’t think it was a dodge. She articulated Biden’s well known position on the independence of the DOJ. How is that a dodge?

It’s a lazy and mindless reporting. We should expect better at TPM. But alas…

Perhaps the staff is still waking up from their long weekend. Weekends do seem to suggest a state of torpor on this site.

Stay above the fray, Joe. You don’t need to cover yourself in slime and grime, that’s Trumpf’s gig.

If you have to take time to explain you won’t be explicitly corrupt, are you winning?

This is as it should be. The president should not have his/her finger on the scales of justice.

Not that has ever happened, especially recently.

He should have been charged the day after he got the pass from the Senate.

Did anyone really think a Democratic president and DoJ would perpetuate the ‘new norms’ from Donnie that are antithetical to the rule of law? That’s the premise of these questions.
It would also turn the entire uncomplaining Democratic House and Senate into hypocrites. Then all the false equivalence wouldn’t be false anymore.

This is an interesting confrontation in which nobody’s really in the wrong. You can’t fault the reporters in the White House briefing room for asking what the President thinks about vital stuff. And of course Psaki for her part is making it clear that in an executive branch we hope has returned to its post-Nixon norm of DOJ independence, even expressing an opinion, being the President, is wildly inappropriate. I think the word “dodge” has negative connotations this doesn’t deserve. She declined to answer, that’s true, but it’s entirely to the new administration’s credit that she did.

Perhaps the staff truly thought enough Republicans would vote to convict?

Only if you’re explaining to reporters who value ‘gotcha’ moments over substance.

I came here to say this - lazy framing, it’s not a dodge, it’s the correct answer. Good grief, can we get some real journalism - THIS IS WHAT THE PROCESS IS SUPPOSED TO BE!

What part of “independent” does the reporter not understand?

There’s plenty to report on for the ongoing power outages. INCLUDING: my daughter in Austin has been without power for 24 hours. She can’t get to downtown Austin (where they DO have power) because of the road conditions, she can’t get to a gas station for food because they’re all closed. And Gov. Abbott puts out a statement saying that ‘companies are frozen’, which means absolutely fucking nothing!

So, yeah, there ARE other stories to report on.

I don’t see it as a dodge, either. Poor wording on TPM’s part, I think.

Hopefully, Trump is fuming at this. And with no Twitter outlet to give vent to his magnificent thoughts, he may simply stroke-out.

Weren’t we shitting on Trump for politicizing the DOJ?

Biden is busy getting shit done, riding his Peloton, playing Mario Cart and staring into Dr Jills eyes. He’s not sweating DT.
