WH Concerned About Vaccine Hesitancy After Biden Gives Timeline A Big Boost | Talking Points Memo

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday stood by President Biden’s announcement the day before that the country has secured enough doses of COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate the country’s adult population by the end of May. However, Psaki also shared the administration’s concerns surrounding vaccine hesitancy.

Good luck with that, Joe…

We absolutely must donate or reroute those extra doses to poor countries (with time enough for transport and distribution on their end). Not one single dose should be wasted!

I think fewer people will be hesitant once millions of people have gotten the vaccine without much consequence. I can see not wanting to be first in line but, after 100 million or so have received the vaccine, it will appear a lot less risky to many of those who are currently skeptical. There will always be anti-vaxxers, of course, but I think the rest will probably fall in line by summer.

Well, if there were any question, I’m persuaded now it’s fine. People I trust say it’s been tested, certainly a substantial number of people have taken all these vaccines with no unusual reactions, and the far greater risk is not to take it and run the rapids every day out there. Plus there’s the psychological cost of what’s pretty close to a lost year. I’m eager to get this done.

This is one that just goes on the civic duty list. We don’t know any long-term implications, but we do know the long-term implications of getting covid, including serve lung damage and other effects.

But whatever risks there are in the vaccine are significantly outweighed by the moral obligation to society to stop this thing, and to protect that small part of the population with immunodeficiencies who can’t get it.

Yep. There is no good argument for not getting that damn vaccine.

Once again a congregation of Catholic Bishops seeks to have the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Hey Dems, if it is true and melania and donald really were vaccinated, do you think actually getting that information out there may have a (beneficial) impact? I mean what were they afraid of the viral hoax or something? if he was afraid of telling his flock, are the Dems afraid to say anything as well?

Yeah, well, lets wait until we actually have extra doses before doing that or even thinking about that. Given all the states that have had to push out their vaccination schedules by a month due to the recent polar inversion disrupting deliveries, hospital chains cancelling previously scheduled 2nd doses due to lack of supply, I can see a pretty severe backlash coming against these stories about future overabundance.

This is a meaningless comment, but we have some MAGA in our family, and they have already gotten their first shot.

I’d like to think we will be pleasantly surprised (many old MAGAs like the idea of breathing, hopefully).

Maybe Pfizer should offer a couple free Viagra tablets with every vaccination.

Movement afoot to convince Trumpers not to get vaccinated, basicallyu out of spite in order to try to hurt Biden by fucking up his promised milestones, etc…

Related: Jen Psaki is terrific! Smart. Thorough. Professional. Fair. Diplomatic. Eloquent. Great judgment in answering as completely as she can, or when she can’t. Knows when to refer to others in the Administration. Mild mannered, yet firm. Knows how to deliver shade when necessary.

A key battleground is convincing all military and reservists to get it. The amount of resistance there shows how deep the “alternative fact” and Qanon lie machines have penetrated.

My dad tells the story of his first day at boot camp (1951 Navy). Hair cut, uniform, line up, roll up your sleeve, and walk the line. At least 3 shots, if not 4. Then 2 hours of rifle drills*. He did not have a choice.

*Over time 2 hours became 4 became 8, and then 8 hours in the snow uphill…

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I know quite a few folks who would just rather wait and see for a bit. Frankly, I think that’s stupid because Covid has killed over 500,000 Americans while the vaccine has killed none. Others will question the long-term effects of the vaccine and I’m like, “Uhh, what are the long term effects of Covid?” For some people, they include spending the rest of your life on dialysis or strapped to an oxygen tank. This is just a no-brainer for me. Put the needle in my body!

The new statement from the Conference of Bishops is at odds with a note approved by Pope Francis, who received a vaccine in January. The December note said that “the use of such vaccines does not constitute formal cooperation with the abortion from which the cells used in production of the vaccines derive.”

Unfortunately, a lot of the current US bishops have more in common with Franklin Graham than with Pope Francis.

Donnie and Melania are afraid of tarnishing their contrarian authoritarian credentials. As always they are the hallmark of deceitful and dangerous fools.

Yep, and let the damn thing keep running wild and creating new and more resistant variants.
