I seriously doubt it, but I want Bondi to arrest some SCOTUS justices the first time they rule against Trump.

Regarding the DOJ ditching police department consent decrees.
Under prior administrations the DOJ had instituted reforms and consent decrees. They have been quite successful in reforming departments in a number of cities like Newark, NJ being an excellent example. All while crime rates have declined in those places.
When Senator Timmy Scott had a chance to pass a police reform bill which was supported by the major law enforcement organizations he quashed it over qualified immunity. This is from a man who once spoke passionately about being pulled over in his car and was harassed by the police. Cut off nose, spite face. Or do Trumps bidding.
Bad policing is not only counterproductive to the point where you lose the trust of the community, thus making crime prevention and solving case more difficult.
It costs us a lot of money. Which ought to be stressed on a daily basis to the point where it belongs on the news crawl on the television.
Examples: Sheriff Joe Arpaio cost Maricopa County $80 million dollars by running an abusive department. Milwaukee County Sheriff Clarke cost the county millions when he left some poor meth addicted man to die of thirst. He also left a pregnant woman to lose her child while she was in a jail cell. Those are funds that could have gone to say, improve police salaries, reduce the number of unsolved cases as well as projects that improve the community.

Biggest transfer of wealth in U.S. history just happened in the House and Scott is saying how wonderful crypto will be for poor people?

Leaving Him out of it for the moment… : - )

Last night I was reading an interesting study that finds a connection between CO2 in water and in the air, such that an excess in one is balanced by a counter effect in the other.

I’m describing it poorly, but the speculation is earth’s systems are rigged to keep life going. Massive, life-ending events have occurred throughout history – example, the killing off of dinosaurs. Yet here we are.

Stupid humans will still be long dead in the harsh environment we’re creating, but it seems unlikely that humans can turn the Earth into Mars.

The Republicans in congress can stop this at any time they want.

It is Republicans destroying the rule of law. Donald Trump has not just their permission, he has their blessing and encouragement.

One of Paul Krugman’s zombies has devoured Scott’s brain. Or what was left of it.

The markets are doing surprisingly well given the unorthodox and novel economic policies. A lot of bankers and investors on Wall Street think that they are being manipulated by the President’s friends, the Treasury, and by Jerry Powell at the Federal Reserve. Jerry made a pact to save his job. Bank stocks are booming.

I wouldn’t underestimate the cumulative effect on voters of cuts (orchanges that amount to cuts) to Medicaid, Medicare, SS, SNAP (which will hurt farmers, too), and other programs, not to mention the higher prices and inflation brought on by whatever tariffs actually go into or remain in effect. The Wall St. types are unhappy with Trump’s economic policies and with this reconciliation package so may withhold contributions to Repub campaigns. Primary elections for the 2026 Congressional races start on 3 March 2026, and the primary campaigns will have started before then. Many other Trump policies are very unpopular with voters. There is good reason to hope that the Dems will take the House in 2027, where they can craft legislation that highlights Dem fiscal priorities, even if a still Repub Senate doesn’t go along or a Dem Senate does go along but Trump exercises his veto.

A lot of pain between now and Jan. 2027 and Jan. 2029. But there is reason to hope.

Water absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere and in it’s dissolved form is Carbonic acid. The oceans were a great buffer, taking up excess human produced CO2, for a while, and are close to being maxed out and acidified. This increasinly affects corals and shell forming molluscs, and eventually all marine life.
