Welch Launches Bid For Leahy Senate Seat With Bernie Endorsement

Well I do have to admit that since my 38 yo sister’s homicide death in Texas was attributed to “natural causes” that folks just may not live very long in Texas.

Well, I’m 74 and the decay process has only just started. So, more power to him. Just so’s he’s careful not to leave any of his parts on the Senate floor. Tripping hazard.

I certainly won’t vote for him.

Cuz, I mean, I don’t live in Vermont…

But yeah, it’d be nice if we could get some younger Vermonters in there… but, as someone else pointed out, if we get a younger at-large rep from VT, that gives them 3 terms in the House before they move to try to get into the Senate.

I will. She’s not too old. She’s too damned senile. :stuck_out_tongue:

79 as of last Saturday. He does not possess the vigor we could really use. On the other hand, he did win.

Yeaaaaah, no. This is exactly the line of reasoning that was used for all of the ‘NANCY MUST GO’ as Speaker in 2018 and after the election last year. I don’t think there are many in the House that could’ve gotten things done this year other than Nancy Pelosi. Jayapal maybe.

Leadership should leave leadership when someone else is ready to step up. They don’t have to know they’re ready. We don’t have to know they’re ready. But the person passing the baton really should be able to look at them and say ‘yeah, they’ll rise to the occassion’.

True, the amount of trips around the sun is less the problem…

I voted for Joe in both the primary and the general. He wasn’t my first choice, but he was the man for the moment, and he has my enthusiastic approval. His age is still a problem, not because it has any apparent impact on the job he is currently performing, but because the actuarial tables indicate a substantial likelihood that there are going to be issues sometime between now and 2029. And that’s a long way from ideal.

DF is 88.
Not a remotely fair comparison to Welch, who is an athletic and healthy 74.

I started giving Joe money in February, 2020 because I realized he was the only one who could beat Trump.

And who would be 81 years old running for reelection in 2028. Hard pass.

Horseshit.

They’re the ones with the knowledge and experience.
When new leadership takes over, none of them will be under 50.

Patrick Leahy leaves rather large shoes to be filled.

Peter will fill them to overflowing…

Leadership also should seek out, mentor and advance its successors. Certain powerful Democrats actively suppressed advancement of the next generation after Obama caught them off guard them in 2008.

He’s got the look, that I can tell you.

The problem with pelosi’s leadership is that the party doesn’t have an heir apparent for her.

One thing I’ve learned in leadership trainings over the years is that at least 10% of your efforts should be working on, or with, succession planning.

Any given day you could be hit by a bus.

Yep. Old white guy. Granted, they’re pretty thick on the ground in Vermont.

Anyone caught off-guard by Barack Obama in 2008 was not watching in 2004.

And I think Adam Schiff, Pramila Jayapal, and Eric Swalwell, among others, have been far from suppressed.

No, they have several heirs potential. Which is how it should be. If you’ve got an heir apparent, or even an heir presumptive, then you’ve got a singular target for the opposition to undermine.

Succession planning is responsible leadership.

Change management is a thing

Biden was 77 when elected.

Hard pass on him too?

Anyway, you live in Tex-Ass, not Vermont. We’ll elect any goddamned person we want.
