Just days after expressing interest in passing “meaningful” background check legislation, President Trump appears to have cooled on the idea.

I’m not saying anything. I’m saying Congress is going to be reporting back to me with ideas. And they’ll come in from Democrats and Republicans. And I’ll look at it very strongly. But just remember, we already have a lot of background checks. OK?” he told reporters, according to a transcript.

They have bipartisan committees working on background checks and various other things. And we’ll see,” he continued. “I don’t want people to forget that this is a mental health problem. I don’t want them to forget that, because it is. It’s a mental health problem.

There is not going to be any significant, effective, new gun legislation. Period. No level of carnage will make it happen. Everyone needs to get used to that fact. Your children don’t matter. Your ability to enter public spaces doesn’t matter. Being an abused spouse doesn’t matter. None of it matters. The nation has been handed over to the culture of the gun, and it’s not getting clawed back. Accept it. Refusing to means you’re unable to accept reality for what it is. And for what it always will be.

"It’s a mental health problem.”

Indeed it is. And that’s what the 25th Amendment is for: Dealing with precisely this kind of mental health problem.

Let’s talk about how we have “mental health problems” that the rest of the world doesn’t have. Sounds like a pubic health emergency to me.

Take your pick, the NRA while wounded is still giving him marching orders or he can’t remember his positions on anything one day after he spoke.

Well, it looks like the NRA was able to scrape up enough “campaign donations” to bribe Cheatolini (not that it takes much) back to their side of the aisle.

Congress will fix it. O dear. Another issue of great concern for Susan Collins.

Meanwhile, back in El Paso, widower Antonio Basco who lost his wife to presidential racist chumming last week returned from her funeral which was attended by thousands of sympathetic strangers, and found his car had been stolen and wrecked.

We don’t have a car thief problem. We have a mental health problem.

I’m sure his inevitable backtracking on this, which was painfully obvious from the first noises president idiot made about this to anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together, will generate the same top headlines his ridiculous lies about supporting background checks did. Right? The media isn’t just going to help him create the impression he supports something he doesn’t, are they?

If it is a mental health issue, then he should be nowhere near any firearms or the nuclear codes.
