The coverage of the killings of Kirk and Hortman tells you all you need to know about the imbalance in the media environment in which we live. People talk about inhabiting different or asymmetric environments, but the relative impact on the average media consumer of Hortman’s murder, which by any standard was worse and much more explicit example of political violence, was dwarfed by Kirk’s.
So good for folks who know better, but it is sort of like whispering the truth into Dixie Cup. Many Americans seem to want Jesse Watters, others are forced to listen, and when the TikTok sale goes through, that’s what the younger generation will be hearing, too.
