Some of the career employees will hunker down and try to rebuild after the mango plague passes into history. The best as noted above, will take the job offers they have been getting for years. None of them are replaceable with any sort of competent people. They are highly replaceable by clean desk dick jobbers who will draw a paycheck and gum up the personnel system when someone tries to fire them one day.

Shutting down/hamstringing the EPA impacts the lives of every American. As the scientist in the article stated, more pollution equals more cancer. The poor are the ones who will bear the brunt of the impacts (that’s why losing the 1994 Environmental Justice order is so detrimental).
What few in the public understand is that the EPA also has a critical role in overseeing environmental impacts and providing guidance for federally funded infrastructure projects. At this moment, projects are being delayed due to the confusion. What’s the process? Will there even be a process? All these delays and confusion will put people out of work.

Exactly! I have a nephew who is a civil engineer who works for the EPA. His background includes 2 tours with Engineers without Borders (Kyrgystan and Bangladesh) and is certified as a PE (professional engineer) . You can’t get much better than that. I asked if he was worried about his job a week or so ago, and my brother said he thought it was more media hype than reality. Well, I think not. This is our country’s loss.

We may never recover from this.
As dept. after dept. is gutted and as everyone acknowledges the best are leaving first. Our education systems and science depts are being destroyed as well. There are no replacements coming up from behind to rebuild if and when the administration turns friendly again and decides to help, protect, and educate the people.
