‘We Cannot Allow History To Be Rewritten,’ Biden Warns | Talking Points Memo

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.

As he was signing off on awarding Congressional Gold Medals to the police officers who were at the Jan. 6 insurrection, Biden tore into Trumpworld’s crusade to recast and whitewash the events of that day.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1383703

This one showed up this morning on my news feed:

9/11 families to President Biden: Don’t come to our memorial events (msn.com)

Not sure what to think entirely, but the families may have a point. Why not open these documents up?

Prediction: fizzle.

Could be, but after the last one that was going to be ‘wild’, I believe precautionary moves should take place. Maybe not all the fencing around the Capitol, but certainly the LEO’s and NG on alert. The second one needs to be quashed before it takes root.

That’s precisely why it’s going to fizzle. They can’t stage Jan 6 twice–the assaults will come elsewhere (primarily against voting rights).

Who’s paying for the busses? Follow the money.

Maybe there should be a counter-protest if, by then, no voting rights bill has been passed.

It’s time the majority was heard. Really…

I will be happy to pay my share of the busses that haul them directly to jail.

I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely done with the white, evangelical, Protestant, voluntarily unvaccinated, racist, homophobic, anti-democracy, Republican voters & their cult leaders. Each and everyone of them are a threat & a traitor to our country! There are 7 million more of US then them. It’s time we start acting like it & take control of the narrative! I’m tired of the media letting “them” dominate each & every news cycle. And that starts with news outlets like TPM, too. Anyone that covers Trump, DeSantis, Lindell, Guillianni, et al. STOP!!! Stop giving their actions & words meaning by covering them incessantly! These fascist traitors are poisoning our already sick country by having their words & lies spread around the world by our news media. Enough is enough!

Oh, absolutely. The people who had much enthusiasm for it six months ago are otherwise occupied these days. I remember, what was it, in March?, Trump’s supposed first reinstatement, and about five dopes showed up and stood around for a while, looking stupid, and then trailed off home again. It’s pure Trumpian nonsense to assert things that are wildly contradictory to universally known facts and then try to persuade huge numbers of people to rally behind those assertions—to take time out of their lives to plan the travel and where they’ll stay, to arrange to get the dog walked and the mail taken in, all that. It’s absurd.

Perhaps that is their entire point - "Oh, look, we’re being all nice and peaceful and not insurrecting this time too!

Which genius at TPM came up with???

“A lot of things happened. Here are some of those things.”

It’s their excuse for picking and choosing what they talk about, while ignoring stuff we think it was more crucial.

That’s all I got.

It’s why I end up going to my other news consolidators to see what’s been missed and then share it here.

from the Newsweek article:

Some are now wondering if this could become a First Amendment issue for McCarthy. Jon Cooper, a former campaigner for both Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, tweeted: “My friend @grantstern is a journalist who was forcibly removed by 4 police officers when he tried to ask @GOPLeader a question at a presser — why he opposed the bipartisan Jan. 6 Committee. This is outrageous & shouldn’t happen in America.”

Stern continued tweeting after he posted the video, directly addressing Republican members of Congress at times, who tweeted their thanks for McCarthy’s visit: “You didn’t say a word as goons kicked me out of that press conference. Was it one of your staffers?” he asked Representative Carlos Gimenez of Florida.

And in response to Representative Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida, Stern tweeted, “Are you going to stand up for press freedom??”

We cannot allow history to be rewritten. We cannot allow the heroism of these officers to be forgotten

This is key. Totalitarian governments and movements realize that revisionist history is a key element of control. For example, China’s Xi Jinping is actively rewriting history in a way that both distorts the Communist Party’s role in achieving China’s independence and bolsters China’s claim to undisputed hegemony over the entire South China Sea. We are truly living in the ‘Information Age’, and smart would-be dictators start by rewriting the historical narrative to legitimize their control. The degree to which this has succeeded among the GOP base is truly breathtaking.

I was going to suggest that it would be a “yuuge” fizzle, but then I realized that I have no idea how to spell the alternate pronunciation of “huge”.

So this just showed up:

Employers Added 943,000 Jobs in July, Unemployment Rate Fell to 5.4% - WSJ

Can this now be used to put to rest that the unemployed are just lazy and collecting benefits rather than going back to work?

That saw is getting pretty dull, in light of this kind of news.
