First, if GA certifies, then the house of cards that Trump has built around ‘fraud’ and that ‘he won in a landslide’ begins to crumble. It’s complete bullshit but everyone wants to indulge the performance art. Other states, like PA/AZ/NV/WI will certify and it’s done. MI has some stupid, exploitable loopholes in its process, but I think the political will to undermine a 154k win for Biden will dissipate if GA certifies.

Second, from a numbers game, Trump can’t get Biden below 50% of the EVs if he gets GA’s electors. That means he can’t win. If he can’t theoretically win, GOP won’t support him. One of the potential issues Trump has with this strategy is that if a state doesn’t certify in time for the EC b/c there’s a fake dispute as to a) the vote count, and b) whether the state leg can override the PV or their prior laws delegating elector selection, then that state may simply not end up participating in the EC. That would mean that Biden would need to get 50% of participating EC states. Instead of 50% of 538, it would be 50% of (538 - non-participating states). It would be a proportional adjustment. In that scenario, Trump can’t get Biden under 50% unless he takes PA/WI/MI/GA/AZ and NV off the board. His camp seems to grasp this b/c he’s in court in NV and PA right now demanding that the actual electors be awarded to him. It’s not limited to delaying certification. From a math standpoint, it’s just tough for Trump to win unless he gets what Biden presumptively has.

Third, if GA follows its law, then everyone else will follow their laws. That would inherently affirm the notion that state legislatures can prescribe and delegate by statute the method of counting and validating votes, resolving controversies and certifying results. If that happens then this cooky Ken Starr argument that only state legislatures should decide goes in the toilet where it belongs.

I hear commentators on MSM talking about Trump and his future after leaving office and for some reason most seem to tap dance around the 800 pound gorilla in the room,Trumps legal problems he and his family are facing.
Just a recent reminder. As the Temptations say" like a snowball rolling down a hill its growing"

Your actions in blocking transition activities required under the law are having grave effects, including undermining the orderly transfer of power, impairing the incoming administration’s ability to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, hampering its ability to address our nation’s dire economic crisis, and endangering our national security,” the Democrats wrote.

To which she responds, “that all is true, but I need to find a job in the right wing ecosphere after all this is over. That is more important to me.”

What is protecting this woman? She has a legal mandate to ascertain the election. Why hasn’t she been ordered to do her job, sued, or fired?

Excellent analysis. Thanks for laying it out so clearly. I realize that I misunderstood your original argument. When you said “…then this is over,” I thought you were saying that Trump would concede (in some Trumpian form, of course), drop his “legal” challenges, and allow the transition to begin.

I heard from a former staffer on the House Armed Services Committee, where Murphy was a counsel at the same time. He described her as “a royal bitch.”

Something that Trump (and those who are enabling him) aren’t considering is that if any state refuses to certify its results, that means that none of the results are certified, which includes all down ballot races.

Are they willing to sacrifice down ballot republican wins for Trump’s ego?

Technically, Kemp has until tomorrow to certify the slate of electors.

The state has to certify the election results today, the governor has another day to certify the slate of electors for the EC.

If Rudy’s organizing the pardons, can we start a pool on who gets ‘overlooked’ and left twisting, slowly, in the wind. (ed.)
Not that I feel Donnie will do any better, though.

It will be interesting to see just how far the trumpers take this - both the politicians and citizens. I have no doubt it will fail, but just how far from their claimed “American values” are they willing to go for Dear Leader?
Will they commit criminal acts - and what will the next AG and the states do about it?

Trump will never concede. The reason Rudy and the cronies gave it their all yesterday at that nutter presser was because the NYS tax fraud case is real as is the SDNY case against Rudy for his role in the UKR scandal, which, if properly investigated and prosecuted, would reach Trump as well. These dudes are trying to stay out of jail. That’s why they will go to any possible lengths to overturn the election results. While I think Dems are doing a great job in the courts, they need to engage on the political front. Force Trump into exile by showing just how fierce the public can be in defending their rights.

The main reason why the GOP and Trump are both in cahoots trying to overturn the elections is as Rudy described. They look at the county maps of PA/WI/MI and they see that without Philly/Milwaukee/Wayne counties, Trump wins. They’re angry that black voters kicked Trump out of office, and are about to send him and the cronies to jail and the poor house. The entire basis of the GOP’s theory that they are entitled to rule is because they win white voters and Dems don’t.
