Congress will count the Electoral College votes of the 2020 election in a process that starts at 1 p.m. Usually the ceremony is a purely ministerial, drama-light affair. But a band of President Trump loyalists have discarded their constitutional duties and plan to drag out the procedure by filing objections to the results of a few key battleground states that went for Joe Biden.
They’re counting on the “normal voters” to forget all this in order to pander to the crazies whose votes they need to stay in office. Georgia was a disaster for the GOP and Trump is no longer useful. They’ll drag this out, but I’m thinking, except maybe for Hawley snd Cruz, their hearts won’t be in it.
They started out whining about the limits on how many members can be in the room (translated, how can we disrupt and act like children if there aren’t enough of us?). When Cruz got a standing ovation I had to turn it off. I have work to do.
Just heard a report on NPR, they got a reporter from CO public radio on the phone for an interview. She was in the Capitol covering the proceedings. She said that they took the Reps and Senators away somewhere while the staff and visitors were left to fend for themselves. The NPR interviewer asked if she was safe, she said yes “I’m in someone’s office, it has a lock on the door, and I’m with other people sheltering in place.” What day to be a pool reporter.
