So far he is making good points. He also took responsibility for CNN crew’s arrest. He apologized.
He sounds like a real leader.
Keith Ellison is making an excellent talk, too.
I listened to the Gov then stopped. Why do I feel like nothing will happen to the cops that murdered George Floyd?
It gets so old, talk is cheap, things will drag out and they’ll hope everyone will have forgotten what happened.
Rinse and repeat, ad nauseam.
Wow…you’re right. Moving words too.
Not only did he apologize for the CNN debacle but he said words that will never come out of the anusmouth of our Troll in Chief - that he takes full responsibility for the action.
BTW, what does taking full responsibility look like? It’s a phrase you hear but I’m never sure of how it works out.
In this case, he apologized personally to the CNN CEO. Then went on the air and apologized to ALL journalists .
I have hopes that REAL steps will be made in this case.
When is he going to fire the cop(s) who gave the order?
As democrats we are suppose to support unions but police unions suck
Maryland’s Governor Larry Hogan on the situation during an interview on the Today Show:
Summary: Hogan does not consider the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and that of Freddie Gray in Baltimore similar. He has contacted the Governor of Minnesota to offer advice, and said “inciting violence on Twitter” is not a way to end the unrest and that “Inflammatory rhetoric I don’t think is helpful on either side.” Hogan also said the violence needs to be ended “by lowering the temperature“ and called for a dialog once the violence subsides.
Since the Washington Post has a paywall, here’s part of the article:
” I don’t think it’s a fair comparison,” Hogan said during a Friday appearance on NBC’s “Today” show. “The evidence here seems overwhelming and clear to me. You have a video of exactly what happened."
Hogan said the communities’ responses to the deaths are similar, however, and he called Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) to offer his advice on dealing with the riots. He condemned President Trump’s tweet that said, “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”
“I do believe that you’ve got to have law and order. We’ve got to stop the burning and looting,” Hogan said. “But inciting violence on Twitter is not the way to go about it.
Hogan said that once the violence subsides, leaders in Minnesota must get face-to-face with residents who have “legitimate concerns and frustrations,” but the role of the government right now is to end the violence by “lowering the temperature.”
“Inflammatory rhetoric I don’t think is helpful on either side,” he said.
FYI Fox is actually showing this, perhaps some of their viewers will see some real leadership
Hey deplorables compare and contrast
As I see it the difference between police unions and other unions is that unions are suppose to be the little guys banding together for protection from the powerful. Police, however, aren’t the little guy. They are enforces for the power of the state and the powers that be. If police unions stuck to negotiating wages and benefits like a standard union it would be one thing, but they don’t. They insist on sticking their noses into situations like this where the dynamic isn’t the little guy vs the powers that be, but an agent of state power abusing that power to harm the little guy.
Here’s a possibly significant bit of information just posted by The Washington Post.
Minneapolis City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins said George Floyd and fired police officer Derek Chauvin knew each other for many years because they worked security at the same night club. Both men worked at El Nuevo Rodeo on Lake Street before their last encounter.
ETA: While they worked security at the same club, it is unclear if they knew each other.
Oh…wow. That’s an interesting piece of information.
I like that Walz said that if you’re not second-guessing decisions that were made then you’re not doing it right.
Such an asshole
