  1. The presentation of Articles of Impeachment was far too formal for what that bastard deserves.

  2. The Article itself is plain. Any Repuglican voting to dismiss is violating their oath.

Exactly. Trump doesn’t even care about the law. To him, the law is just delayed justice. Delay it long enough and it’s meaningless.

Adam Schiff was right.

Saying Donald Trump has “betrayed our national security” and will do so again, Rep. Adam Schiff used his closing arguments in the president’s impeachment trial on Monday to urge the Senate to take a stand against “a man without character.”

“We must say enough — enough! He has betrayed our national security, and he will do so again,” Schiff, D-Calif., told the Senate. “He has compromised our elections, and he will do so again. You will not change him. You cannot constrain him. He is who he is. Truth matters little to him. What’s right matters even less, and decency matters not at all.”

The typical GOP Senator is not going to vote based on the seriousness of the crime of sedition, concern for democracy, or because what T**** has done to this country is just plain wrong.

They’ll vote on how it will affect their re-election. Nothing more.

That is also an indictment on the propaganda organs which have made such despicable conduct necessary for their re-elections.

The item that is seldom mentioned.

If the electorate they are trying to appeal to wished for other things, they would have long ago endeavored to behave differently.

This has been said by myself, all of you here who post and everyone else at TPM.

The United States, unfortunately, has been bombarded by Reactionary, grievance-based, wedge-issue information which bears little resemblance to that which was broadcast in the days of Eisenhower** and Kennedy.

Here they is, walking through the same halls the racist fuckers defiled only weeks ago…

And if you haven’t heard it in full, stay for Raskin’s reading of the articles. Powerful stuff!

OT kinda…but while we’re on the subject of insurrection…this is what being treated with kid gloves looks like. So many of these whackjobs are out on their own recognizance. This is nuts. Lock up these people especially this one.

Another arrested, this time in Omaha. Held in jail until his hearing tomorrow. Lied to law enforcement. Went from the rally to barging his way into the Capitol building.

“ In short, the January 5-6 Jericho Marc h, January 5 Stop the Steal/Rally to Save America event, and the January 6 Stop the Steal/March to Save America event were a single 24-hour “happening” coordinated by all of Trump’s top allies: besides Stone, Alexander, Jones, and Flynn, Giuliani, an event-planning company (Event Strategies) for which Paul Manafort served as a top executive, and Steve Bannon , who following the 2020 election returned to his prior role as a top Trump adviser. The roster of those speaking at one or more of these three entangled events correspondingly included everyone else at the center of Trumpworld: Donald Trump, his two eldest sons and their significant others, three of Trump’s top Congressional allies (Brooks, Cawthorn, and Boebert), a host of Trump surrogates (including pastor Mark Burns and Georgia representative Vernon Jones), and a number of top donors and campaign boosters.”

I think it’s worse than that.

One of the worst-kept secrets in American politics is that the GOP is actively seeking to dismantle democracy so they can rule forever. They embraced Trump in part because they recognized he wanted the same thing, albeit for his own selfish reasons. They figured, correctly, that he would stop at nothing to damage the system they hate and fear: the system that threatens to topple the GOP.

He exceeded their greatest hopes. They may not care what happens to Trump, but they will not let anyone repair the damage he did. And the first line of defense is to acquit Trump. If that happens, the pro-democracy reforms we desperately need will be stillborn.

No doubt Trump is threatening political revenge and blackmail. No doubt the the Koch machine has instructed them to acquit and how to coordinate the messaging. But even without those motivators, they all know it will only take a few months of real sunlight to exterminate their hateful, corrupt machine. They will never allow any Republican to be punished ever again. It’s not just about the next election – literally every attempt at holding them accountable will be (rightly) regarded as a mortal threat, because it is.
