Washington Has An Innovative Way To Fund Their COVID Response — If They Can Get Trump’s OK | Talking Points Memo

Washington state petitioned the Trump administration on Tuesday for a nearly unprecedented change to its Medicaid program, tailored to respond to the state’s climbing number of COVID-19 patients.

I am all in favor of Washington doing what it needs to do to fund its COVID response, but you have to remember that 3 or 4 of the richest people on earth live in Seattle including Bill Gates. I can imagine Washington has the money lined up, but Washington is a one off. What it can accomplish can’t be duplicated in most other states.

Most states are like Missouri and are totally dependent on the mercy of the Trump administration. If Trump refuses to be forthcoming the death toll will be staggering.

This week is the week in which the GOP will be able to message and message some more.

Next week will be a different story.

The Geometric Increase of Covid-19 will render comical all of the FOX/Trump/GOP/RWNJ messaging.

No need to explain in words what should be readily obvious to people who can read graphs. So let Trump “allow” this. Or “not allow” it. Either way his coming week will be much worse than this one.

Oh…and “blaming Dems” for this Geometric Increase is OK too. Because right after a RWNJ starts the Blame Game, the RWNJ is then going to have to do things and think about things that “the libs” are a hell of a lot more comfortable doing:

Like what people in WA are now doing

Thought experiment. What would happen if states like CA, NY, and WA crafted a state level law that required all federal taxes to be held in escrow by the state until the governor & legislature agree to release the funds to the federal government. Is it possible? Ehhh, probably not. But it seems to me that the economic engines of this country are getting screwed by Trump despite the fact that these are the states that are responsible for the majority of the tax revenue that’s being collected by the Federal govt. It sure would be nice if the tables were turned and all that funding could be held back for use in the states that need it most right now.

edit: interesting, this has come up before… https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/01/27/california-could-cut-off-feds-in-response-to-trump-threats/

private philanthropists

Is it too god damn much to ask to have a society where who lives and who dies isn’t determined by ‘benevolent billionaires’?

Sigh. I’m just not smart enough to understand why you need the federal government’s blessings for a program asking for private dollars to supplement healthcare for all affected citizens in a crisis situation. This should have nothing to do with any particular health insurance policy, but would serve more as an overarching pot of funds, like a GoFundMe.

Especially when there’s a better than even chance, this particular government will maliciously deny the request.

OT, but watch this carefully…

Obviously nothing but a drafting error/oversight, but Miss Lindsey is already trying to claim it was a nefarious plot by the Dems. Watch carefully to see how they "fix it AND what else they try to change, because I suspect this is just the smokescreen issue.

Keep an eye out for sure but it seems there is not momentum to change the language they did not like.

Preempted by the Supremacy Clause.

The other idea is probably bad and might risk the feds attempting to throw a municipality into receivership, which is precisely what they’d love more than anything.

What CA and MA and other “donor states” should start doing is just find ways of punishing those other states that mooch off us. No official travel, etc.

But WA isn’t “nice to him” so…tough.

You are wading into the fever swamp for news? Thank you for your service…

In all seriousness, I try to glance at the headlines over there once a day or so. It’s like a fun house mirror…

Ha…so of course, instead, they will message that this was a nefarious Dem plot…no wonder Lindsey is throwing herself a big fit…it’s just to draw attention to their blaming and accusing message.

You DID hear they are all pissed off because SOME people in the poorest damn states in the nation might make a little bit MORE on unemployment than in their regular jobs…because the fkers in those states keep the minimum wage artificially low. Honest to CHRIST you can’t make this crap up.
