Then there was Buttigieg sanely pressing himself into service as the alternative middle yet again. The audience seemed to like him for that. We’ll see if he can stay in contention…
It’s a good thing I didn’t use the term “nag,” “virago,” or “harridan.”
The night is young, right?
Maybe I should edit it to say “curmudgeon?” That’ll throw everyone for a loop.
I have been supporting Warren for quite awhile but I agree about her attacks. Enough already!! I only watched about half the debate as I had some work I needed to do. If she continued in the “attack dog” mode…not good.
Yeah, but apart from political strategy, keep in mind that Boomberg (along with trump) is basically what Warren has been fighting against her whole political career.
So it’s not just debate strategy, it’s kind of the core of her beliefs.
There’s plenty of time for attacking Trump - she’s trying to bring out the differences between the candidates. And she’s not there to entertain us. Women do care about Bloomberg’s dismissive attitude towards these issues - he reeks of smug entitlement.
Warren persisted far too long with her attacks vs, Bloomberg. At least she acknowledged it was indeed personal fo her. She loss her job when pregnant & Bloomberg funded her opponent, Scott Brown, in MA. If only she had let it go. But no, she didn’t & therefore looked politically tone deaf validating all the rumors for her not being nominated as chair of CFPB she singlehandedly created.
Warren did best when she said she would make a better President than Sanders and said she did all the work on M4A numbers which Sanders attacked her on. That resonated with so many. Alas, it also highlighted that Sanders is a better politician for having snookered Warren into doing the work.
It’s time for Warren to exit. Carville said it best…she looked like she wanted to beat Bloomberg more than she wanted to win the nomination.
Like any sane guy I worry, mostly, about the tit-for-tat.
Ooh, I just noticed Toadglans mit der Bone Spurs ….
As Warren notes, progressive ideas are popular. It is weird, I think, however, that these debates have turned into a focus group/test for Republican talking points.
Pro’bly just me.
And Liz is insufferable.
You are starting to scold.
Warren is Bernie’s fellow traveler. She is angling to pick off his stragglers.
The animosity between Bloomberg and Warren is real and it goes back a long way. It also squarely reflects the modern Democratic party. There is a growing tension between the Democratic base represented by Warren and Sanders and the Democratic elected establishment represented by Bloomberg and Biden. That tension is just about to explode all over this election cycle.
Because the media companies are controlled by people beholden to or are part of the establishment we are treated to continual spin that Warren and especially Sanders have ideas outside the mainstream. That spin is going to bring a bunch of people up short when they discover that those ideas are really attractive to most Americans.
Ever notice that when men attack, it’s “fiery”, “Presidential”, “tough”, “shows he has a backbone”, and “shows he can stand in the World stage”, but for women they are “scolding”, “shrill”, and “hormonal?”
Same song as always. Women can’t be tough without begin “hard on the staff”, “bitchy”, and “unlikable.”
Agree on all counts.
But Liz’s political instincts are not very good–especially off the cuff. She needs what Apollo gave Rocky:
More finesse. And a David Ploeffe-level individual to be Apollo.
Let me also at this time draw the distinction between Bernie-ism and his supporters and almost everyone else.
I am a Warren supporter. And yet I offered up a criticism uphread. A criticism which was acknowledged by @imkmu3 (who may or may not be a Warren supporter).
I also have other Warren criticisms…and, should Warren falter and I shift to Biden, I will also have a number of criticisms of Joe Biden. **
On the other hand, Bernie-ism seems to require these things:
(1) An emphasis on the man (Sanders), with the policy coming up so intertwined with the man that to criticize any aspect of the policy is to criticize the man
(2) Blanket non-criticism of Sanders. I have rarely seen a Bernie-ite offer the least bit of criticism (or shortcomings) of Sanders
** such as a tendency to emphasize defensive postures, a failure to portray himself as an elder statesman (as opposed to imitating a younger candidate), an over-emphasis on shouting “I did that!!” and more
What Bernie people do is dangerously close to cult-worship (in this country) and treatment of dictators in Third World countries. I have read some biographies of dictators, written by sycophant-authors and designated for consumption by people living both in and out of the regime.
Not an uncomplimentary word in 'em.
Thanks. It’s time someone did that.
It isn’t that weird if you consider that the DNC is a lot more worried about maintaining revenue streams, and the progressive movement is a direct threat to that.
I think that’s a little harsh. Cults tend to be xenophobic. I’ve never had the impression that anyone who supports Sanders hasn’t a desire for the betterment of America–and beyond. Some have a certain fervor in support, sometimes its way over the top, but calling in cultish is a far stretch, and does nothing to even the tone of Democrats political discourse.
Now, Trumpistas…I’ll call that a cult.
