Following a tumultuous weekend of tweets and right-wing media reports on the identity of the anonymous whistleblower, Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chair Mark Warner (D-VA) expressed grave concern about the safety of the individual who came forward with complaints about President Trump’s call with the Ukrainian president.
I very much hope that nothing happens to this whistleblower or anyone else standing up to Trump. Should someone get hurt or worse, Trump’s defenders will spin, spin, spin.
Collins Spokesperson: Our Campaign of The Concerned is finally catching fire and spreading broadly across the bipartisan political landscape. Watch for the Senator’s new book “How To Seem Concerned Without Really Caring” in bargain bins everywhere just in time for the holiday season.
(No slam against Warner. Just having a moment.)
So Trump is using Twitter to threaten violence against an individual. I realize Twitter is a shitshow, but isn’t Trump in violation of Twitter’s Terms of Service? And if not, what does it take?
If anything happens to the whistleblower, or anyone else Trump is threatening, Twitter should be held equally liable.
Well, first, the Twitter Terms of Service apply to everyone BUT Trump. They’ve made it very clear the rules don’t apply.
Second, I can see some 2A dope taking matters into their own hand. I would hope someone has made it very clear that it changes nothing, as it is all already documented. One can’t shoot a document.
He accused Schiff of “fraud and treason” and the whistleblower of “spying” on him. I suppose we should be thankful at least he didn’t call the whistleblower “rat”, as he’s done in the past.
I hope Congressman Schiff is taking appropriate precautions as well.
Stochastic terrorism. It happened in Pittsburgh where 11 people were murdered after trump promoted the conspiracy theory that George Soros was funding the migrant caravan. trump already has blood on has hands, and it’s obvious he doesn’t care if more blood is spilled.
The fact that the GOP just wrings that hands and avoids making any grown-up commentary tells you all you need to know about the status of trump’s party.
I’ve been yelling about my concerns as to the whistle blower’s safety since this all started.
Apparently some are just now coming to the realization that the WB’s life is in danger should some idiot reveal his/her identity.
On another point: https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/30/politics/trump-giuliani-impeachment-strategy/index.html
Yep, trump is behind the curve on this. He and his aides are showing mounting incompetence, leaving trump’s survival to the likes of Hannity, Geraldo Rivera and Rudy Giuliani.
It appears that there is more than one WB…
Everyone should be worried for the safety of those that has told the truth AND can tell the truth AND those that are looking for the truth against Trump’s criminality because the Criminal-In-Chief just threatened civil war if the impeachment is successful!
For the rest of us, we should be worried that the person with the Red Button is a criminal who incites violence!
Addendum:
18 U.S. Code 2383.
Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
More likely, it’ll be “pranksters” doxxing the guy, putting out his address, calling the police and claiming there’s a hostage situation there, etc. These aren’t tough guys that are going to fight a CIA-trained dude.
They’ve done it in a number of cases, some with tragic endings. Hope law enforcement is actually paying attention and does their job, and doesn’t fall for the pranks when they do start rolling in.
Schiff needs physical possession of the device and the human who knows the code words necessary to get the salient parts out while protecting all the other state secrets as to ongoing intelligence operations civilians need not know about.
Wouldn’t worry about that. Wiping those records would themselves be a violation of several laws, including obstruction, Presidential Records Act, etc.
And you wouldn’t be able to stop there to wipe out the evidence of the existence of something.
So say, for example, it’s known that you had a phone call on X date with Y person, which would have generated a transcript. If that’s now missing, you know it’s been deleted. You’d have to go back and try to cover up the call ever taking place…
