The model you had in mind:
Don’tcha know, disreputable teachers will use it to groom our children as water fowl.
The Marines have been talking about this tech since the early 2000s so I’ve known it was coming, but we’re opening up another Pandora’s Box of trouble here. Once this technology is out there, it WILL be used against the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Guaranteed!
…and thereby enrich the gene pool of people living in Berlin and Berkley.
I thought from the headline that this would be about the new claims by wingnuts that the war is fake. Not that there’s anything wrong with the headline, but I’m preparing for the “fake” claims to start worming their way into every other discussion about the war.
Yes, but we can’t stop this tech without giving the advantage to our adversaries on the world stage.
Right now we have the best military in the world, not just in hardware but in trained and experienced manpower. It’s why the Russian military fell apart trying to invade Ukraine. They have very good hardware but their training sucks donkey balls. Autonomous hardware is a force multiplier for countries like Russia and China where the human element is lacking.
So we have to get in this race to build the damned things, but restrict it to military applications only. Keep it out of the hands of the police by making the products available only through military contractors. And limit any civilian experimentation too. I guarantee that right now, someone in a basement out there is trying to figure out how to give ChatGPT control of an armed drone.
Once the technology is out there, everyone who wants it will be able to develop similar tech. Drones are everywhere already so it’s coming whether we want it or not. How it will be used is up for grabs.

I can think of no faster road to success than to have a book criminalized in Florida with felony penalties threatened to those who willingly avail it to others.

Once-popular cartoon scrapped from hundreds of papers after Scott Adams calls Black people a ‘hate group’ on his YouTube show
And we have a 2A right to own these weapons ourselves, right?
While the topic of children’s books rests in my head – I would wager that Scott Adams could write a children’s book on the subject of his racist blathering and NOT receive a ban in Florida school systems.
The International Committee of the Red Cross, the custodian of international humanitarian law, insists that the legal obligations of commanders and operators “cannot be transferred to a machine, algorithm or weapon system.”
Anybody here think the Russians give a shit?
