Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance has convened a special grand jury to hear evidence about potential charges in his investigation of the Trump Organization, the Washington Post reported.
Kudos to Vance for moving this forward. Based on what Cohen had testified to and the NYT piece on the Trump family’s almost incessant pattern of tax and real estate fraud, I have little doubt that if folks apply the facts to the law that charges will follow.
The DOJ should be embarrassed that holding Trump accountable is being left to local DAs. We have obstruction of the Mueller probe, the Cohen-Daniels matter, Ukraine and Jan 6. No excuses for not convening a major federal investigation against Trump. Just get to it.
@jrw - Don’t sacrifice that goat just yet. It happens sometimes that GJ’s don’t indict, but you can be damn sure that with a fish this big Vance is damn sure he has the evidence to get a GJ to indict the motherfucker.
After so many disappointments in the legal pursuit of the Trumps I’m hesitant to get my hopes up, but this looks promising. I hope we get to see Uday and Qusay do the perp walk.
“The Post described Vance’s probe as “expansive,” saying that he has been focusing on Trump’s business career before he ran for president.”

That’s why it’s taking so long. I imagine trying to find a stopping point has been about like putting a quarter in a slot machine that turns out to be the hottest machine in Nevada. At some point, you’ve got to take your winnings and go, but damn this thing just keeps paying again and again.
This is the first time he was ever in any real legal jeopardy. As long as that DOJ memo was in place, Barr was AG, and he was still president, in hindsight, it was probably never realistic to think he’d go down for anything involved in the Mueller probe. He no longer has any of those protections.
