WaPo: Trump Billed Secret Service $40K For Room At Mar-a-Lago | Talking Points Memo

While in office, former President Donald Trump famously drew ire for staying at his own hotels and clubs which, in turn, required the Secret Service protecting him to spend huge sums to rent out his rooms, at taxpayers’ expense.

Here’s hoping taxpayers have to pay for a room for him at some point. A very small room with bars.

And as Trump brand business practices dictates, the government should refuse to pay, claim unsatisfactory performance of expected services and let him take us to court.

There is no way they are going to put a former POTUS in a common correctional facility. Probably be an in-house arrest at Mar a logo so he can continue to charge us for his own room.

This is such old news that I’m wondering if TPM comments have morphed into the Wonkette Phantom time warp thread.

Wonder how the Secret Service folks staying at Mar-e-Coli feel about this? Privileged or disgusted?

The very existence of Trump has exposed some awful truths about ourselves and our political institutions

But the greatest harm was the evil within Trump, his actions based upon it, and the acceptance of it by millions.

New York has some lovely facilities in Ossining and Dannemora.

I’m sure this sort of thing happened all the time. $40,000 is chump change for Trump grifting.

It’s actually on the main page of the Washington post today, the fact that he’s still making taxpayers pay is noteworthy, if awful, news

Trump’s tacky club.

I’ll only suggest that if you abuse your USSS privileges, you should lose your USSS privileges.

No Secret Service for you!
From now on, it’s only Public Service! Under close supervision! No “executive time” potty breaks, either!

Naw. When you’re poor, you pick up cans by the side of the road and keep an eye out for stray pennies.

‘That’s old news’ is one of the memes Trump uses to get away with things. That and a new fresh outrage to serve as ‘Squirrel!’.

As I told all my friends: We will be finding Trump malfeasance, grift, obstruction, and corruption, after he’s out, that will pale what he did while he was in.

Trump picks the pockets of the citizens of the United States and stunningly some of them continue to revere and adore him. It is a riddle how stupid some people can be.

Wait until it’s revealed the DoD is rehabbing that decrepit private jet he mothballed years ago.

I’m going to ignore that this is Trump, but it does raise an interesting question about USSS protection for life of former Presidents. I’m not against former Presidents having this protection, but it does raise interesting logistical questions.
Two years ago there was a story about how Jarvanka wouldn’t allow their security detail to use a bathroom in their house, and that I think it was the Obamas that allowed Jarvanka’s detail to use the space that their detail used. And then they couldn’t for some reason. So Jarvanka’s detail rented a room from a neighbor, at nice rate.
In the WaPo story there was this:

The closest parallel to Trump was the man who succeeded him: Joe Biden. While he was protected as vice president, Biden charged the Secret Service $2,200 per month to use a cottage on his property in Delaware. In total, Biden received $171,600 between 2011 and 2017.

Biden has not charged the Secret Service rent since becoming president in January, a White House spokesman said.

I remember the right having conniption fits over Obama’s vacationing in HI or on Martha’s Vineyard. And staying in someone’s donated house. It’s not like they can check into a Hilton when they go on vacation.
The there’s the question we talked about if Lady Mel ditches Trump what happens to her USSS protection?

Fathered by a grifter, lives life as a grifter, fathered another generation of Trump grifters.

For all the bravado and hot air, Trump certainly acts like a man who is poor.
