Ever since finishing Grand Theft Auto V I’ve been carjacking and running people over for laughs. Ever since finishing Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey I’ve been murdering the elites who make lives miserable for everybody else. (I wish.) Ever since finishing Red Dead Redemption 2 I’ve been riding out west and robbing banks and travelers. And after I finished Diablo III I went across the lands slaying demons by throwing bolts of magic from my hands.
This is the same line of thinking that made people bend over backwards to make the Columbine murderers not seem like a pair of racist, misogynist sociopaths
Sure, that’ll help. In no way whatsoever.
I’m not allowed in Walmart because I don’t make the minimum weight.
Having run a Violent Offender group with juveniles here in Colorado for years before retiring, and having raised a son who enjoyed these games, I have come to the conclusion these games can play a role for kids already at risk due to other factors, but pose little risk for otherwise healthy kids. I compare the effects to those of advertising and the use of commercials, and like to use dog food commercials as a good example of what I mean. When you see a dog food commercial, if you don’t have a dog you can dismiss it quickly, but pay a little more attention to it if you have a dog. Repeated exposure means you MAY even try that particular brand. There is no direct link, but a few will make that link. Commercials do work, well enough that we won’t run out of dog food commercials anytime soon. Eliminating this one risk factor, without addressing the other factors that lead to violence will help, but it’s far from a solution.
The GOP, and specifically Kevin McCarthy, seem to ignore that this public debate was had and settled seven or eight years ago in the case of Anders Brevik. You would think that if Walmart pulls this routine (and they are technically a victim) there will be large pushback. It appears Walmart’s decision is quite deliberate and that its top execs believe this is the path that leads to the highest customer retention. What is scary is that it could also indicate a serious inertia problem at corporate.
I cannot really boycott Walmart because I have already refused to shop there for years.
I NEVER shop at Walmart.
No one should. The family that owns it, one of the richest in the world, is totally right-wing Republican.
Same goes for Home Depot, unfortunately.
Oh, obviously its the video games, not the guns, right? I mean, after, ours is the ONLY country in the world that plays violent video games, so that must be why we have so many gun deaths. WTF! This has got to be one of the dumbest scapegoats for what’s going on! Come on gun-nuts, put your collective brain cells together (all dozen or so) and come up with something that at least makes some kind of sense!
Walmart has made the courageous decision to remove violent video game displays — but not actual guns
okay, but removing dead humans from there property is just part of cleanup maintenance.
" clean up, aisle 2, 4, 6 and a few in the parking lot.

This is someone telling Walmart it’s got to do things differently. Will they listen? Evidently not.
Real profiles in courage Walton Family! I’m sure Donnie and the NRA will shower you with…awards…
I feel your pain.
Even better NYT Andrew Ross Sorkin writer urged Walmart CEO McMillon to do the right thing and cut financial ties with others who have ties to NRA .
I’m unfamiliar with the Canadian and South Korean versions of Call of Duty. Do they play with digital Nerf guns instead of more realistic simulations or what? How else to explain the rarity of gun terrorism?
It’s Arkansas
“We’ve taken this action out of respect for the incidents of the past week, and this action does not reflect a long-term change in our video game assortment,”
I realize that his “official weight” is 239lbs which is like Jack Benny claiming he was 39 until the day he died. 239lbs is the cut-off between over-weight and obese for a man 6’3" tall. The Orange One is NOT 6’3" tall without his lifts NOR is he only 239lbs. He is every bit of 280lbs and likely more and probably was (when in his 30’s) 6 feet tall and change. At over 70, he’d be shrinking not growing taller. This puts him on the light side of MORBIDLY OBESE.
All 280+ pounds of him is a disgrace, including the 40 pounds he wants to pretend isn’t his.
And now you know the reason that they remove video games, they aren’t a big moneymaker anymore since people largely get their games online or through other sources. Guns make Walmart money, so they won’t cut them…economics win out over American lives with large corporations, until the corporations are made uncomfortable enough that they finally do the thing they should have from the beginning.
