The pandemic stands to bring a major surge of mail-in and absentee voting, both in the remaining spring and summer elections, and in the general election this fall.
Showing the voters standing in line in Milwaukee last week should solve that problem and the out come of seven people so far dying because of that situation,no telling what the end count will be.
I wonder how long it will be before this story makes its way over to Fox, etc after being cherry picked over to make VBM the biggest problem POC face in voting.
Apparently, the First Stripper, Escort and Pornstarâs birthday is coming up and her pimps Skanky Turdface of the White House and sleazy Ronna Romney of the Republican Party are trying to fundraise off this event. The online fundraising request is on my TPM feed for some reason.
A lot of people are saying Bill Barr, Bobby Mueller, Jerry Powell, Johnny Roberts, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and other christian conservatives and Republicans have been losing sleep, having wet dreams, and are lining up and leaving money on the mantle for the escortâs birthday.
Some seriously, seriously excellent news that must be shared:
Remember: whoever wins Wisconsin probably wins November. If Milwaukee voters of color are properly trained to vote absentee by mailâwhich is super-doableâwe suddenly find ourselves on the brink of victory.
Here is a suggestion. Instead of âsouls to the pollsâ on a Sunday before an election, have it as a âvote by mail service.â Everyone fills out his or her ballot (with people around to give assistance in filling out the information on the inner return envelope) and then, en masse, they go to the post office and place the ballots in the box outside. And someone stays around until Monday to ensure that the mail is actually picked up from the box.
This is just another opportunity for Republicans to restrict the vote. That is their objectiveâŚalways has been and, probably, always will be. Glad to see Milwaukke being so proactive.
I call semi-bs. If you update your mailing address with the USPS, your ballot should be forwarded. If you show up in person to any location that does voter registration, you should be able to get a fresh ballot. If people have ballots, they can make it a thing to fill them out and drop them off together. How is all this any harder than taking a goddamn day off work to stand in line for hours to vote in person? How is vote by mail any more difficult for blacks than in person voting? Nevermind, I call full bullshit.
I understand the reluctance. If you live in a state that has systematically disenfranchised POC, it isnât hard to see how they might suspect that their ballot might be âlostâ. From what I understand, voting machines in these states also have a tendency to âloseâ votes in areas that have significant POC populations, so it seems like a reasonable concern.
The last time I voted by mail, it was an all mail-in school bond election. The instructions were printed in dense, infinetessimally tiny font, with lots of gotchas and multiple steps, all of which had to be done correctly (the multiple envelopes, the sigs, etc.) and poorly written. The resulting envelope was oversized and required you to supply your own stamps - which were not regular 1st class postage, due to the size.
Although âturnoutâ was high, a record percentage of the ballots were thrown out.
âThereâs a great distrust in the mail system,â said University of Southern California professor Mindy Romero. Her and othersâ research show that voters of color, at greater rates than white voters, cite a lack of trust in the postal service as a reason they donât cast their ballot in the mail.
This is why I wonât do it. I donât trust a damn thing in this country. Iâll wear a hazmat suit if I have to, but Iâm making sure my vote counts in November.
I think itâs a clickbait headline with legitimate story content, but it really seems to boil down to POC having more disadvantages with every voting system. If they donât trust the VBM system because their votes arenât being properly counted, fix the system. As far as early voting working better for them than other methods, I fully support a transition period of one or two election cycles. The VBM would make in person voting safer by reducing the crowds.
All of this depends on elected officials wanting to make legitimate voting as easy as possible, but thatâs true in the context of the article, too.
