So, G. Gordon Liddy had some spare time on his hands I guess.
Is there any provision where Congress can pass election laws for federal offices, or are they all left up to the states?
At least here in Tejas, as long as you are in line by 7:00pm, you can vote.
If and when they do it, we need to be prepared to demand our states secede and protect us from federal law and taxation and be ready to draw blood to defend ourselves from their minority-rules white Christian neofascism. Also, we should create a run on the banks and take your money out of the financial institutions that will all support our new white federal theocracy. Do not leave yourself at the mercy of seizures, forfeitures and garnishment. They must all be made to pay dearly in blood and money. Target their livelihoods and their children, their homes and their churches. Blood in the streets.
Nothing is off limits for them, so it shouldn’t be for us. If they steal this election and it’s not your breaking point, you are a slave. NMNQ
In a civilized, 21st Century nation, this should be a no-brainer. But here we are…
In Maryland they hand a special card to the last person in line at 8:00 p.m. (no matter where the line goes), and don’t shut down the polling place until everyone up to and including that individual finishes voting. During the primary, for one “lucky” location that was 10:30 p.m.
Anybody want to lay money that there is some ‘hacking’ involved???
Who “cut” the cable? Where is Roger Stone?
And that’s what it is here in St. Louis County. I remember back when Kit Bond was a MO senator and there had been a problem at a couple of polling places in the city (?), and he had a hissy fit about the election board extending the time for people to vote. I don’t remember what the problem was, electric going out, ran out of ballots, or even if it was when we first got electronic voting machines, but the man through such a hissy fit that it stayed in my memory. The Election Board was going to extend the closing time for only those that were still in line.
In recent times I remember some hoo-haw in FL about being strict in closing the polling locations. And if I’m remembering it correctly there were people standing inline, never left, for over 6-7 hours. Which means when they arrived the polling station was only half way through their operating hours.
Careful with these stories.
Snags will occur.
What will be DONE about them?
If the story is long on problems and short on attention to solutions, that is a recipe for a obliterating progress in the minds of many and, worse, galvanizing and encouraging those who live to spew negativity.
“Fiber cut” – words that strike terror into the hearts of network people everywhere.
This is old, but still a good filk:
A cut cable has shut down Virginia’s statewide online voter registration system, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time
Probably took the 13 year old about 9 seconds to located the cable… and wire cutters…
“This one’s it…dad.”
Nah, much more likely to be a backhoe … the natural predator of fiber optic conduit.
Yeah, the article makes it sound like someone snipped an Ethernet cable with a pair of wire cutters, but from the tweet it sounds like somebody was digging with a backhoe and accidentally cut through a major line. Which also explains why it’s taking a while to fix.
Time for a geek joke:
When hiking, you should always carry a length of fiber optic cable with you.
That way, if you’re ever lost, all you have to do is drop the fiber on the ground, wait a few minutes, and then you can ask the backhoe operator for directions.
(Because backhoes are attracted to fiber, ya know…)
The website is back up. The Dept of Health and DMV were down also.
Ha! In a totally different fiber-related situation, we had all the traffic cams go down because a couple of meth heads ripped out the cables to sell for the copper - except they were fiber optic cables. It took months to get them fixed, and then a few weeks later someone did it again.
Totally stealing this, and likely to get punched by my friends when I tell it.
