Virginia GOP Goes Full Trump, Says Dem Gov’s COVID-19 Rules Are ‘Not About Your Health’ | Talking Points Memo

So, ancient Rome under one of the particularly nasty emperors?

Dead on.

But at this rate, the GOP will cease to exist by their own hands next year. It can be imagined that they think this will thin down their opposition. What they are going to do is power up that opposition.

Imagine the campaign ads. My opponent helped kill Grandma. No more visits, or cookies or that 20 dollar bill at Christmas time. Grandpa is real sad now and doesn’t like to do anything but stare at Grammy’s picture. GOP, why did you kill Grandma?

“…in his Eastern Shore drawl.” God forbid it’d be in a Queens, NY accent.

The problem here isn’t that they themselves would contract COVID-19, it’s that they’d overload the hospitals and cause more chaos. Which is probably the aim.

I expect the chaos to intensify as November approaches. They will try to render the election ‘illegitimate’, in case they lose; a transcendence of collective wisdom if they win.

I am well aware. But the political reality is different. Republicans are trying to blame democrats governors if the economy crashes. Abbot is inoculating himself against that by issuing the “re-opening” order. The risk for him is that if covid-19 cases spike for whatever reason, he is going to get the blame, but he is safe in TX, he was only trying to help Trump.

Actually, no, they weren’t. The March of Dimes was originally a fund-raiser for polio vaccine research. I’m a post-Salk baby, so I don’t know this stuff first hand. I have friends who were war babies, and they do remember it. Behavior wasn’t that much different from today: during the summer months kids were kept home, avoided public pools. AFAIK, the closest thing to protesting going on was the MoD. But that was a whole different sort of protest.

…Northam would try to “enchant you with a canned ‘now is not the time for partisanship’ answer in his Eastern Shore drawl

I’m unfamiliar with this regional taunt…but this is akin to calling him a Yankee, yes? Cause that couldn’t lead anywhere bad…

Yes, we’re well aware that for them, it’s all about reelecting Trump no matter the human cost.

Eff 'em!

A video version of this is vital…and I mean vital.

My initial take is that a majority of Americans are not ready to join a death cult. That being said, I have time and again over estimated the intelligence of the American public.

This surely is the way to win back the suburban voters that have been driven away by all the Know-Nothings in the GOP.

Reopen Virginia, excellent idea, with only about 500 new cases daily right now, what could go wrong? Total cases almost 9000 and a couple weeks ago it was 1000. Yeah, lets get it open and up the number of cases.

It’s about making the US the perfect place for an invasion by an hostile enemy. There’s no way we could defend ourselves because this entire country is so fucking sick! Or dead!

Reopen Virginia Rallies coming up!

One is this coming Wednesday, April 22 at 11am at the Virginia Capital. Another one is on Friday, May 1. Everyone will be in their vehicles from what I understand.

Regretfully, I will not be able to attend the April 22 event as I will be veto session with the rest of the General Assembly.

You know, I dug a bit to find a society where you could kill slaves, and the ancient world popped up on a PBS page. I’m sure there are nuances to that, of course; as I understand they did have certain rights and so forth. But if one of them went missing from a patrician’s estate I doubt there was any segment of officialdom that would take much interest.

I figured as much. It’s true in California too, per my brother.

From his perspective the one good thing about this is that his oncologist and nephrologist have finally started communicating about blood draws, to minimize his trips into danger zones.
