Video Shows Alleged Insurrectionist Wondering If Capitol Rioters Were Actually Just Stupid | Talking Points Memo

The first video released of an FBI interrogation of a Capitol riot defendant shows the man crying, wondering if he’s just stupid, and describing his use of a Taser-like weapon on a Capitol Police officer.

Are they just stupid or are they stupid + evil?

Editors note in regard to replies:

Trump did not create deplorables, deplorables created Trump.

So in my view this goes way beyond stupid.

“There will be blood,” Rodriguez allegedly texted a group chat the day before the Capitol attack, according to the indictment. “Welcome to the revolution.”

There will be blood, sweat, and crocodile tears.

The deep, deep tragedy of the past 20-ish years, culminating in Trump and Jan 6 is that a bunch of ignorant people were lied to, over and over, by Republicans, by Fox News, by Facebook, by Trump (and by extension Putin). They were brainwashed. Sure, a lot of them were already sympathetic to racism, et al., but they could have been talked back off the ledge. Instead, the were talked into jumping. How do you reverse a 20-year brain fuck?

And there was that Q-Saman lawyer that was condemned because he said:

they’re all fucking short-bus people,” Albert Watkins told Talking Points Memo . “These are people with brain damage, they’re fucking retarded

“Are we all that stupid?"

Stupid enough to talk instead of demanding a lawyer.

Danny Rodriguez: “Trump called us. Trump called us to D.C… he’s the commander in chief and the leader of our country, and he’s calling for help — I thought he was calling for help.” pic.twitter.com/wIEbvVbfQr

There’s no person or institution capable of giving Trump the sort of help he needs.

Yes, Daniel Rodriguez, you have the critical thinking skills of an annelid and the courage to match.

I’m looking at what happened on J6 to the Astroworld festival. In and of its self holding a rally isn’t a dangerous thing. Holding a festival is a bit more dangerous. What made both more dangerous is the last of preparedness.
On J5-J6 both had rallies, but the J6 was larger, the J6 sole purpose was as a vehicle to get people to DC to somehow stop the certification of the election.
With the Astroworld Festival the hype of seeing a popular artist, the fact that gatherings had been banned because of the pandemic, and that crowds that get out of control have a pattern-according people who manage safety and security at festivals and concerts.
But the folks that went to J5 and J6 were already primed to commit violence by the lies that the Trump campaign and the lack of leadership within the GOP created.

Mass hysteria is a real thing. Wanting to be in the chosen group within the larger group is real phenomenon.

Well, he sure seems nice.

And stupid.

And easily manipulated.

Too bad he’s got so much company in the latter 2 regards - not limited to the male birth gender.

One piece of this tragedy is that he is probably an outlier. Most of them have probably not realized how thoroughly they were played. (I’m not sure he has actually grasped it himself.)

Nobody here needs to be told, but what this guy is crying about is getting caught and he is shifting his own desire to crack skulls into how he was lured into ‘helping’ his ‘team’.

I don’t want to hear about crazy, or they were lied to, or mental health, or they were summoned or commanded by Chump. After they have been charged and imprisoned we can worry about their mental health. When it comes to political actors, this is a choice and a lifestyle and if it proves they have true clinical health problems…we can worry about that last.

None of these people were ‘duped’ into doing anything they already weren’t primed to be on their own dime. They were too stupid to get educated, too lazy to do the real work of a citizen or a Dem, and took the easy path to the Easy Party. That they got lied to, every step of the way, was par for the course and to be expected. Hell, they already ‘say’ that all politicians lie and “The Man Oogedy Boogedy” so why should we believe them when they now say that Chump or Republicans lied to them on their latest venture? By their own admission they don’t trust government or politicians, now that Chump comes along…you let your guard down and become a Pollyanna with a gullibility complex?

Quite different than Jenna Ryan’s “I’m blonde and white and have a career, so they won’t lock me up.”

Amazing how, now that they’re facing the real consequences of their actions, that they suddenly start crying ahd ‘understanding’ that those actions were wrong.
