USPS’ Confusing Vote-By-Mail Postcard Frustrates State Election Officials | Talking Points Memo

The United States Postal Service has begun sending voters nationwide a postcard with information on casting their ballots through the mail. But Republican and Democratic election officials alike in several states say the information could just confuse voters with its one-size-fits-all advice.

Confusing by design.

And malicious intent…

This is what happens when you put ‘one size fits all’ small sized minds in charge of things. There should have been nothing about voting specifics sent out by the USPS to apply nationally. IMO, this was another attempt at manipulation.

DeJoy is really working overtime. Could there be a Medal of Freedom for him in the works?

Sadly, I believe this is true. The USPS is not so stupid as to believe that state rules and laws regarding elections are monolithic on a national basis. So yes, I think this is deliberately misleading misinformation. This is what the Trump maladministration does. Vile. Corrupt. Anti-democracy. Despicable.

I got one of those (Gwinnett County, GA). I tossed it to the recycle bin. My wife and I originally planned to vote by mail, but we are both going in person during early voting. She’s at high risk from things like COVID, but we both now distrust our county and especially the State as far as mail voting. We’ll be alright.

Nothing says bullshit about cost cutting better than an unnecessary mass mailing.

Yep…and now we need an state by state information campaign to combat the disinformation the Post Office’s NoJoy had to sign off on for this shit to be in the mail in the first damn place. This didn’t happen by accident. Its never happened before in an election. The pandemic is not an excuse either since the states decide how their elections are run.

Everyone needs to be asking, “why has this happened now?”

A: Fucking tRump

Aye, I used to say TrumPublican malevolence was tempered by incompetence but it is hard to deny these days that there is method in their bumbling.

How many million dollars did the technically broke USPS spend on this stunt? Sounds lilke more DeJoy monkeywrenching.

In the Greater Kansas City Missouri area, the same information is now on the RADIO. I just heard it on JackFm. Isn’t it amazing that USPS is in financial trouble (due to having to prepay pension funds for 75 years) and yet “someone” authorized the expense of mailing and radio ads.

Is this paid for by USPS? Are you able to get an audio recording to mshuham@talkingpointsmemo.com if so?

I don’t understand why they sent this. It is not wrong enough to actually really affect anything, a d not right enough to really help.

It just makes the USPS look bad.

If at all possible, vote in person. Some states are open right now. Wear a mask, keep your distance and remember, the thing you most have to fear is another four years of the most criminal administration in the history of the US.

Got mine Saturday. Trouble is, here in Colorado, NO help is needed, or wanted. I discovered yesterday that I can request notification by email (or other means) of when my ballot is sent to me, when it is received in return (I’ll use a drop box to return), and when it is accepted by elections officials for counting. All I have to do is watch my email to track my ballot! Our SOS has claimed that if we can track a pizza delivery, we should be able to track a ballot.
The ONLY thing the feds can do to screw up our voting here in Colorado is try to confuse people about how to vote.
If your state can’t get this done it’s because they don’t want to do it!

I would be interested to hear from any historians out there if there was ever a dirtier election at the highest levels in American history.

This advice is just as unhelpful as the USPS mailer. Every state is different.
