US Finally Speaks On Alleged Poisoning Of Putin Critic, Calls For Investigation | Talking Points Memo

MOSCOW (AP) — The Kremlin brushed off allegations Tuesday that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was the victim of an intentional poisoning orchestrated by authorities and said there were no grounds for a criminal investigation so far since it hasn’t been fully established what caused the politician to fall into a coma.

The investigation will consist of Donald calling Putin, who will vigorously deny any involvement, and Donald will announce in a presser that he believes him.

I’m pretty sure that really was the least Pompeo could say. It wouldn’t do to upset Boss Putin.

The only way they were able to get Pompeous Asshole to address this is by pushing his face down into the pile of obvious horseshit until he consumed some of it. The Dotard will do nothing that harms his puppet master.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that if reports about Navalny’s poisoning “prove accurate, the United States supports the EU’s call for a comprehensive investigation and stands ready to assist in that effort.”

Wow!! Putin just pissed in his shoes for sure!

Boy, at this rate, we’ll have a comment from the Whites House about the bounties on US troops well before the start of the New Year!

Well how do you prove them accurate unless there’s an investigation? They don’t get proven accurate without an investigation.

We’re a disgrace. Compare and contrast with what Merkel has to say.

Khashoggi weeps for America in his grave.

The reason we had to wait this long for a “State Dept. statement” on this is that Trump/Pompeo were waiting for Putin to deliver the talking points first.

What a milquetoast comment by the US State Dept.

Pitiful, just pitiful.

“I said at the time that the Russians could have have just left a business card at the crime scene"

You can be 100% sure that the obviousness of it is intentional. Otherwise, it wouldn’t send a message.

But he’s not calling for an investigation. He says we should investigate if the suspicions prove true – as if that happens by magic. Laughable.

Beyond that, absolutely right. Trump will talk to Putin and whatever Putin says will be what Trump says.

I didn’t read it quite that way, read it as being if it’s confirmed to be a poisoning, then we should investigate. That’ll take a bit more testing to rule out other things, just looks extremely likely right now.

In another pre-Trump universe, Alexei Navalny would have been invited to speak at the RNC, given his pro-democracy positions and anti-Putin rhetoric.

And the results: “There’s no reason to believe it was the Rusherans. It could’ve been a lot of people. He could have been poisoned by a 400 lb. man sitting on a bed in his mother’s basement…”
This kinda thing became predictably formulaic a long time ago.

Ah. That’s different then. And you’re right. But since it’s 99.9% clear he was poisoned, I’d say go with the EU approach. Pompeo’s just hoping the outrage will die out like it did after Khashoggi. They win all the time with this stonewalling shit.

No disagreement there. It’s got all of the hallmarks of Putin written all over it. May as well skip the formalities and throw some more sanctions on there at a minimum.

But won’t happen, because we have a commie rat traitor in the WH.

The last thing the EU would want is our help in an investigation. Why not just give putin a seat at the table and cut out his puppet?

And he has lots of co conspirators that keep things running smoothly for him.

Going to take a lot of work to root all the traitors out, especially the senators.

Investigate? Or is Mango Mussolini looking for the recipe?

Then Trump will ask Putin how he can poison his critics.
