The notoriously conservative U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit on Sunday reinstated the draconian limits that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) imposed on mail ballot drop off options.

Texas has now officially reached full “1984 NewSpeak”.

Will we be safe from gaslighting when these assholes are driven from office?

That’s a rhetorical question.

Sickening. The intent and harm done could not be clearer. And it’s the other team that yells about judicial activism.

And now let’s return to the criticism of Dems for court packing.

The appeals court said that because Abbott had expanded for the pandemic the period during which voters can hand-submit their mail-in ballots — previously that option was available only on Election Day, now it’s offered for the 40 days leading up — his later order to limit where they can be dropped off should not be construed as a restriction on the right to vote.

Because voting rights are a zero-sum game. If you expand it in one aspect, you can restrict it in another. /s

Elections have consequences. In this case the work of Moscow Mitch and the Republican Senate majority is in full view. A Federal Bench worthy of no one. It will only get worse unless we kick all the Republicans bastards out of the Senate.

There is a constitutional right to vote.
Restrictions are judicial.

This is a sneak preview of SCOTUS with the Barrett majority. It’s not enough to do your masters’ bidding on appeals like this, you are now allowed the luxury of writing pure bullshit to justify your craven behavior. The Fifth Circuit: the closest thing we have to Judge Roy Bean. Appearing soon in Washington, D.C

Logic that is the envy of pretzels the world over.

And expand the courts and add competent and fair judges.

Can’t we give Texas back to Mexico?

The only lesson Dems need to have taken over the last 12 years is that post modern conservatism has taken over the GOP and they just are not acting in good faith anymore, they do not care about being consistent in principles and being disingenuous is an advantage they will not give up ever again and their voters do not care a long as they ‘win’. Get this through your gawd damn heads Dem politicians!

Yup, we’ve definitely gone through the looking glass at this point.

From this ruling, and from what I have seen from the past and watching the hearings on the SCOTUS, I conclude there is no common sense in law.

A buddy of mine just said the voting lines in Dallas County, Harris County and Tarrant County are long and loaded with first-time Dem voters! If Cornyn loses, I will be far more convinced that there’s a god somewhere who hasn’t totally abandoned the human race.

I know nothing about the merits of the one-dropbox-per-county order, but the panel is not incorrect in noting that Abbott has (unlawfully,lMHO) expanded early voting.

ETA: Just to be clear, I know two of the three judges on that panel. Jim Ho is a hack auditioning for a Supreme Court seat. Don Willett is a true believer auditioning for a Supreme Court seat.

Stop talking about packing the court. The courts are understaffed and need to be expanded.

40% more judges on each appellate court. 30% more trial court. Wait, see if we need to do something on the Supreme Court.
