Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) offered an ironic remark Tuesday in the abortion rights debate that has surfaced amid Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s hearing, as some Democrats fear she is likely to challenge the Roe v. Wade decision.
When is the earliest we can start sending either individual Republicans, the Trump 2020 campaign, or the RNC our bills for therapy?
I just want to scream at Lee, “Hey Mikey if you don’t want an abortion don’t have one. If you don’t want your wife to have an abortion then it’s up to her and her doctor, not you.”
After reading MI Sen. Peter’s story I also want Mikey to state how many men have died in child birth, how many men died due to a complicated pregnancy, and how many men are will to have a law restricting their
Shorter Mike Lee: I have no qualms about risking giving an agonising death to my friends but do take seriously my crocodile tears about the possibility of pain in early fetuses.
The hypocrisy of Republicans shouldn’t be surprising at this point…this nomination process is only the period on many years of their bad behavior. And, it all goes back to wanting to impose their will onto everyone, and make us into a Christian theocracy…Barrett is just their prime candidate to make that happen, but she’s not any different from the rest of them. Regulating women’s bodies, people’s sexual mores, while declaring “freedom of religion!” is just the means to an end, nothing more.
Really, the hope for the future is that young people remain open to everyone’s freedoms and detached from religious control of government, that will eventually shut down the Republican’s pursuit of their version of a Christian Iran or Taliban. That is the goal…and it would be just as bad for our people as those nations are for their people. Being unconstitutional is beside the point.
It would be only fitting if the next time the good senator goes for surgery, the surgeon were to reassure him he won’t be wearing a surgeon’s mask for this operation
So:
The purpose of the Life. And the Life of the purpose. Is the purpose of government. Is the life of government purpose. Is the purpose live government. But isn’t not religious to government. But purpose Life.
Now I am all confused. Wha!
OK Senator Lee, if you really believe that go tell it to all the children who have been separated from their parents and are dying in cages all along the border.
NO! Don’t just tell them. DO SOMETHING TO FIX THIS TRAGEDY!
Pizzle on Mike Lee. He opposes Democracy and I oppose him.
In related news…
To her champions, Judge Barrett represents a new form of feminine strength — living proof that women are strong enough to have both a career and children, and that abortion may in the end primarily serve to let both men (sexual partners) and The Man (discriminatory workplaces) off the hook when it comes to pursuing true gender equity.
So it’s worth asking: If Judge Barrett’s Catholic faith and indisputable career accomplishments make her such a young heroine of the Christian right, why doesn’t the traditional Christianity to which she adheres encourage more women to be like her?
To be clear, few in even secular communities can be like Judge Barrett. Most Americans do not enjoy the privileges of class and elite education that she has had as a federal judge and legal scholar. A flexible workplace and supportive spouse — things many men take for granted — remain elusive for many women.
But there’s another reason few Christian women can simultaneously pursue career ambitions and family life in the ways Judge Barrett has: In traditional Christian communities, women are often asked to sacrifice the former at the altar of the latter.
Research for a book I wrote about the roles of Christian women suggests that Judge Barrett is the exception, not the rule, to traditional Christian teachings on women’s work and vocation. Most of the 125-plus women I interviewed over two years said they had heard from a peer, pastor or professor that being a wife and mother was, by God’s design, their highest calling — and that a career would distract from that. As such, many Christian women with professional ambitions feel less than Christian, or woman, if they follow those ambitions in the way that Judge Barrett has followed her own.
Guy’s like Lee demonstrate why the title of “libertarian” is meaningless: he and Rand Paul are right-wing racists and always have been. There may be and probably are legitimate libertarians in the USA but none are Republicans.
ETA: Libertarianism has become a handy way to mask prejudice towards those who have at least partially acquired access to resources traditionally reserved for white males. It provides a rationale for attacking the supportive or permissive state rather than risk exposure by attacking the groups the state might now defend or support. The relationship of libertarians, Christian fundamentalists, Birchers and other right-wing radicals, is more synthetic than contentious: There are differences on paper but these people can always work together because they share the same heat source, the same geyser field of hatred for ‘big government’ and the coalition sustaining; the coalition of the New Deal, Great Society, and Civil Rights.
From the above, “Life is valuable. That is not a religious statement,” Lee said, appearing to defend Barrett’s conservative values, adding: “a purpose of government is to protect life.”
So when it comes to the GOP and Trumps decision on environmental laws, you know clean air and water, the GOP decides in favor of a position where more life is exposed to dangerous conditions (methane, air pollution, mining and mining safety, CAFE standards, etc). When it comes to your policies in justice and penal policies, the GOP position is one which yields greater danger to your fellow Americans whether they be prisoners or workers. When it comes to sending our men in to harms way, even though both parties supported IRAQ, Obama did not, and the he was elected overwhelmingly twice. The evidence was based on cooked and cherry-picked data brought to you by GOP Rumsfield and Cheney. This led to thousands of American deaths and a reduced standing in the world, not to mention the hundreds of thousand of deaths of civilians in Iraq. In every way, other than the abortion issue, the GOP is against protecting American lives. Look at their gun policies, look at their support for the safety net, look at the policies on health care. It is not even close. The GOP is the party of power, fascism,a nd authoritarianism wrapped in the American Flag with a bible in the middle.
Republicans have never been Pro Life. It has always been a marketing slogan/strategy. Their policies have never supported the living. They don’t care how many die in needless wars or from this pandemic. The Unborn have never been anything but fertility idols to conservatives which represent their lust for power. The Prosperity Gospel is their bible.
This is what happened in Italy:
Absolute scenes at the Senate (Italian parliament) in Rome today!
It was actually yesterday. Guy didn’t have a mask on.
