Except technically his father wasn’t governor-elect at the time, just a plain old candidate.
But what it does make me wonder what kind father doesn’t buy his kid a computer in this day and age.
With an estimated net worth of $440 million I bet all four of Glenn Youngkin’s children have both a computer and an Internet-capable smartphone.
When my kid was in high school, he took a required government class. The first thing covered were the basics about eligibility and how old you have to be to register and then to vote. I’d be shocked if Texas were more progressive on the civic education front than even Virginia, but hey, you never know.
I’m guessing that those in charge of this place, the same people who made the decision to bar these profs from testifying, got informed about lawsuits and maybe more importantly their reputation, ratings and credentialing, resulting in those lucrative foreign and out of state students not applying etc.
In other words, reality bit.
@becca656 did you see this?
No, I didn’t, but the location is several hours from me. Not sure if the Twin Cities news would have covered it anyway.
These professors’ tenure contracts no doubt include the fact that they can’t be fired for speaking out. That’s why tenure was created, to prevent such restrictions and being fired for violating them.
The idea is that people who have studied something for years, who thus know a lot about it, must be heard. We don’t want a nation of people making decisions without their knowledge. Look at it t his way: we don’t want quacks making medical decisions, we want people who actually know the science of medicine, people with appropriate education.
This ban was put in place because the testimony would be “adverse “ to DeathSantis’ interest, not UFL. He is scum.
Whew, you got to cool it with the acronyms. Threw my relatively quiet Saturday morning into a tail spin with the “TMFWWNBN” acronym. Google’s not helping on this either. I’m going to assume you’re referring to TFG?
Too Many Freaking WannaWanna Nutty Bees Knees.
Simple.
Unless one of them is “doublespeak” it won’t do the GQP any good. They can barely read English as it is.
“The Mother Fucker Who Will Not Be Named” indeed refers to Tinkles Trump.
Mighty white of them…
"The university president talks about “litigation in which the state of Florida is a party”, but it’s worth noting that the State of Florida ISN’T actually a party to the suit–the defendants are state officials, not the state itself.
Hey, I’m glad to see you back! Was beginning to worry.
The very idea of DeathSantis doing this just blew me away. He really is an authoritarian prick.
Florida, we should not spend a nickel on any statewide election there. No way it’s turning blue anytime soon.
I’m curious to learn what led to this reversal. My guess is it’s a combination of factors: pressure from the faculty, who undoubtely were nearly unanimous in opposing the restriction; public criticism and the risk to the University’s reputation; and the threat of de-accredidation. But perhaps most important, I’m guessing that the University’s lawyers told the President that the prohibition on these professors testifying violated the existing policy regarding outside work by faculty. Lurking behind that was the 1st Amendment issue. There was a good chance the University would lose a lawsuit based on the 1st Amendment, and win or lose it would cost a lot of money to litigate.
He leadeth the ass to water, but even He cannot maketh it to drink.
“We”? If anything, the evidence clearly points to “Some”.
