Exactly. Two weeks prior to the next election is way, WAY too late. But that’s the Democratic Way. Time to shuck off all the old PR agencies and probably much of the Aged Leadership.
I agree about the mess. I disagree with the archivist having valid reasons. My understanding is they do not have any authority to refuse certification.
Regarding Medicare Rx price reductions -he rescinded it.
Donald Trump’s Medicare Executive Order Explained
As for the staging of the inauguration, which was moved indoors several days earlier, it was an occasion devoid of a sense of occasion. I would honestly have preferred Trump to ride in on the QAnon shaman. Instead, and not to get all British about state events, the world was forced to watch a quite staggeringly inept and lo-fi ceremony. You constantly expected someone to grab the mic and say: “Could the owner of a red Honda Civic please move your car as it’s blocking in the burger van.” Or maybe, as viewers round the globe sat waiting in mortified vain for singer Carrie Underwood’s basic backing track to kick in, to announce: “Apologies, ladies and gents, we have a tech fail. Is there anyone who knows about tech in the house?”
Yep, and like much of what he’s doing, it’s not about policy it’s about retaliation against his Dem predecessors. The Mt. McKinley renaming thing is because Obama signed the name change to Denali. No other reason.
So, on one Executive Order he demanded staff " defeat inflation " then he went on to eliminate part of the Inflation Reduction Act ? Yup, tRump is back in town !
Hindsight being 20-20, as it is, Trumps sweeping pardons of the J6 rioters, including the violent ones who attacked law enforcement officers, was completely predictable. It completes the circle of denial… of his own criminal activity, and that of everyone else involved. Wipes out the guilty verdicts and the sentences and the ongoing and not yet initiated prosecutions. (Note, however, that it does not wipe out the convictions… for what that’s worth.) We need not speak of who won the 2020 election again. (But it was a stolen election.)
And it was predictable that it would be done day 1. The pardon power is self-executing and immediate. It cannot be challenged. Shock and awe. And I don’t believe Biden’s pre-emptive pardons did anything to make it worse. This is how is was always going to be.
Did anyone besides me immediately think of Dr. Strangelove’s involuntary arm raising when they saw Elon’s “Roman” salute yesterday?
Trump, as predictable as he is in most things, never fails to surprise me with his pettiness. So much childish resentment. And apparently everyone who has ever been told they might be racist or misogynist or homophobic feels a kinship with this.
5 states revoked their ratification, and there were deadlines built in that expired decades ago.
Amid a flurry of executive actions meant to demoralize his opponents …
More than just demoralized, I am enraged.
I want @txlawyer’s take on this, though I doubt I’ll be pleased.
Perhaps the greatest threats we have faced over the past few years are a world-wide health threat, climate change driven disasters, gun violence, and a violent uprising against our democracy. Apparently the way to make America great again involves denial, and purposely backing out of any attempts to deal with any of them. On the other hand, firing Jose Andres, who has found a way to represent the US in a creative and positive way in the midst of crises, is seen as positive step. In family systems, often the “crazy” member is acting out the disfunction of the rest of the family. Our country is clearly struggling with a nationwide personality disorder.
The text of the 28th amendment had no deadline and once ratified states cannot change their minds.
We should blast the airwaves with the fact that it has been ratified. Let the GOP explain to women how they are not equal. Make waves instead of cowering.
Alaskans prefer Denali and it took years to officially change it. McKinley never went to Alaska but he enacted tariffs.
Many advocates for the national park at Mount McKinley wanted to name it “Denali National Park.” They were, in part, inspired by Alaskan missionary Hudson Stuck, who led the mountain’s first successful ascent and referred to the mountain as Denali.
“[Stuck] felt strongly that it should retain the Native name—that there’s no reason it should be named after a politician who had never been to Alaska,” says Brian Okonek, who organized and led expeditions at Denali from 1979 to 2000.

Wait a sec. Should I be buying meme coins or should the robot be doing it for me?
The crypto market experienced mixed fortunes following Donald Trump’s inauguration on 20 January, with meme coins taking a significant hit while other sectors showed resilience. Meme coins such as TRUMP and MELANIA saw sharp declines, with TRUMP falling by nearly 40% and MELANIA dropping by over 66% within 24 hours. Overall, the meme coin sector lost around 15%, according to SoSoValue.
Meanwhile, decentralised finance (DeFi) and the emerging DeFAI sector, which blends DeFi with artificial intelligence, recorded notable gains. Raydium led the DeFi market with a 12% rise over the last day, reaching $7.46. However, the broader DeFi sector saw a slight dip, now valued at $121 billion.
As passed by the Senate in 1972, it absolutely had a 7-year deadline. That deadline was later extended to June 30, 1982.
As per the normal ratification process outlined in the Constitution, the ERA’s been re-introduced in every session of Congress since 1982, without the 7 year deadline, and it hasn’t even been voted on since 1983, when it failed in the House.
As for the withdrawn ratifications… there’s no actual provision in the Constitution either way. So it’s going to end up having to be decided in court. There’s a decision by the National Archives saying rescission after the Archivist certifies isn’t accepted as valid, but no Archivist has certified the ERA as ratified.
