A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the anti-abortion doctor plaintiffs in a major mifepristone case lack standing to reimpose restrictions on the drug. The case presented a major risk to the drug’s accessibility, as adding back restrictions that the Food and Drug Administration had previously lifted would apply nationwide, even in blue states with…
I guess we’re supposed to write thank you notes.
I’m writing my F—ck you for nothing note now.
It was an asinine argument in the first place:
"At some point in the future somebody might hurt my religious feelings, so now everyone else must bow down to my fucking doG.
Fuck Sam Alito. SCOTUS doesn’t want to touch that third rail, even if the GOP Christofascists do.
Should we be flying flags of support?
A broken clock is right twice a day.
I guess the plaintiffs hadn’t bribed Father Alito or Uncle Thomas enough. But I’ll take it.
Sometimes even a blind hog finds a squirrel.
Because my “all-powerful god” something something, ah it’s all bullshit and we know it.
A little bit of sugar to get the shit filled sloppy joe down. Next ruling please.
A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the anti-abortion doctor plaintiffs in a major mifepristone case lack standing to reimpose restrictions on the drug.
“Federal courts do not operate as an open forum for citizens ‘to press general complaints about the way in which government goes about its business,’” he wrote.
They only addressed standing to sue over the federal Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the medication, mifepristone, and the FDA’s subsequent actions to ease access to it. This leaves open someone with standing to bring the suit again so that the FDA approval can be nullified 6-3, as expected.
Yup.
He does, just with a better case.
I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop, SCOTUS seems to have a pattern of upholding precedent with one hand and making a ruling that either abandons precedent or common sense with the other.
It’s ridiculous that the court even accepted this case; it should have been a non-starter.
Curious as to how SCOTUS will rule on presidential immunity…
The Fascist Four are just buying time, hoping to help the Goopers avoid major backlash about Dobbs and such until Full Fascism arrives under the next US Goopernazi regime.
Told ya so.
Leaving the Fifth Circuit opinion intact? Genius!
Well, I do try and get my comeuppance out of the way early each day—usually it’s in the form of the NYT Wordle…
This decision was obvious from the beginning. It is the easiest way to rule the case and the ruling is very consistent with existing law. The court hasn’t ruled what they will do in the event somebody figures out how to get past the standing issue. I don’t think we need to think this is a great victory on the abortion front.
