Yes, and it would appear Russia agrees; e.g., Moscow forcing teachers in occupied Ukraine to follow Russian curriculum
Fortunately it is not in schools alone that culture is transmitted.
thanks for reporting on the extent to which the Ukrainians are attempting to keep their educational system and national identity alive during this war with the Russian aggressors.
I was out on an errand this morning and while driving I listened to NPR’s “newscast”
The reporter spoke of investigations into “Alleged Russian war crimes”…
OK… let’s bomb a school say the Russians… It’s gotta have military stuff and people there… Oopsie… just dead kids now… and an alleged war crime.
How many civilians murdered rates being a war crime?
How many homes destroyed rates being a war crime?
How many cities reduced to rubble constitutes a war crime?
Go to Mariupol and see. … Look in the fields outside that city (It’s a pile of rubble) for thousands of bodies buried in unmarked pits…
This is just one of many sites full of bodies outside Mariupol and the same is true in many many other places around the country.
“Alleged war crimes” NPR says… when there are thousands of dead and whole cities reduced to rubble it is no longer “alleged”…OK?
Russian occupiers threaten to remove the parental rights of parents who refuse to send their children to designated “Russified” schools.
Coming soon to a Republican agenda near you.
Russia has waged war on Ukrainian history and identity for hundreds of years: Kyiv Mohyla Academy, founded in Kyiv in the early 1600s, was prohibited from using the Ukrainian language by Catherine the Great in 1763. In 1804, the Ukrainian language was banned in all schools and universities.
This is why I keep saying either Russia must be utterly destroyed or Ukraine brought into NATO. Otherwise Russia will keep on attacking Ukraine, with genocidal intent, forever. Ukraine may succeed in kicking out the invaders this time, but they’ll be back unless one of those two things happens
