A demonstration organized by a Democratic congressional candidate in Texas ended in violence Sunday when the candidate’s campaign manager and others were attacked.
I’m sure there are “very fine people, on both sides,” except for maybe Gilbert’s side who are probably all far left fascists who should be tried for treason.
“The incident occurred as officers from the Tyler Police Department drove around the square idly, waving at the Blue Lives Matter counterprotesters who had come to support Gilbert’s opponent,” the statement added.
Reminds me of the cops who were “called away on unrelated business” when a bunch of bikers descended on a racial justice rally in Ohio last month.
Get ready for daily incidents like this all over the country from now until November (and likely through Jan 2021 if Mango Mussolini loses).
No arrests were made at the scene of the demonstration, where counterprotesters, many of them armed, vastly outnumbered the candidate and his supporters.
At least they weren’t moms in yellow t-shirts or dads with leaf blowers, because – oh my G-d – would THAT be an existential threat to the rule of law, democracy, and The Republic, itself, requiring a massive show of federal force with anonymous agents, hidden insignias, masked badges, unmarked vehicles, and mass seizures of citizens disappeared off public streets!

The cops are making a very big mistake in not enforcing the law, and in doing their jobs. Ultimately, this undermines public confidence in their professionalism and degrades the trust cops need from their community to keep citizens safe. This will not be forgotten by those left to fend for themselves, because it’s another breakdown in the rule of law under Trump and tears at our Constitutional fabric.
They are sending precisely the message they want.

At a certain point, people are going to start defending themselves if the government won’t do its job to protect them, whether it’s in reaction to police abuses or direct action defending themselves against counterprotesters.

I’m not. But this sort of behavior doesn’t stay local, like the Portland protests. I think in the era of Black Lives Matter and the George Floyd protests, it’ll reverberate nationally. It’s just more evidence we need police reform and we need it now. This doesn’t help the case for those who claim police are the real victims.
Watch for the same type of “protectors” to show up at voting sites in November. Democracy is not a spectator sport; it requires commitment and courage. Vote no matter what!
