At least this board got it right. And when the angry mob prevails we all lose.
It’s why every election matters, vote every single time you can!

Good for North Carolina! The “heckler’s veto” must not stand, or become part of American law. Government by – or most often, impeded by – the loudest bellowers is unAmerican and would bring the country down to the lowest common denominator.

Maybe I missed it but were these two men initially appointed to their positions by the state or county election boards or were they initially elected? Either way, good riddance to bad rubbish. They were there to impose their version of election anarchy if their guy/gal didn’t win an outright majority. Plus, they were inventing arguments that simply didn’t pass the smell test. The sad part is there are still many on certification boards around the country that would do the same thing in bad faith to get their candidates (s)elected rather than just objectively counting the votes without all the shenanigans, and just certify the results as they are required to do by law.

So many election officials are showing real courage since 2020; makes me proud.

The Republicans no longer have a platform. Just a permanent tantrum.

FOX (aka FNN) shows it’s REAL feelings because Maria Bartiromo is STILL on the air.

Rupert said he knew she ‘gave opinions.’ She ain’t a news-person. She’s a pom-pom waving CULTIST.

I’d like to know how long these two were on the Elections Board. Then I’d like to know how the election in 2020 differed from previous elections they conducted if in office, or as a voter.
I’m feeling pretty lucky that my county replaced it old machines with paper ballots and an electronic scanner system before 2019. The only change I saw in elections during COVID was that we voted in a downstairs gym, as opposed on the second floor meeting room, where we have always voted. I presume the change to the gym was for better air flow during the time of COVID.
The only other change that has happened since 2020 is we now have to show a photo ID.

DeHaan and Jerry Forestieri were facing the state elections board because, at a November meeting to certify the county’s 2022 general election results, they had presented a co-signed letter declaring “I don’t view election law per NCSBE as legitimate or Constitutional.”

This is the crux of it. They had no proof of anything and decided, based on their ‘feelings’, that the election was not accurate. These nincompoops got what they deserved and the same thing should be happening across America. ‘Feelings’ do not elect office holders; ballots do. Count 'em and shut up, if it doesn’t come up the way you desired.

Yes, that’s the article where I first saw the phrase “heckler’s veto.” I liked it. Very accurate, concise and expressive. I want everybody on the Left to start using it.

Also, presumeably when these MAGAnuts were sworn into office, they took an oath to uphold the law. Then, safely in position, they’ve announced that they don’t believe in the law and refuse to uphold it. I’d support a lifetime ban.

Absolutely - same as I would hope for with all the others.

There will be those that will be happy to step in to their place and try the same stunts.

But clearly, more than a few people are wise to it and will prevent these future actions as well.

IOW, read the job description. If you’re not capable of filling the minimal requirements, don’t apply.

It’s what their audience wants, they know it’s BS but they don’t care, it’s amazing how they are doing the same thing they are in court about being sued. Really shows how the lawsuit is just a cost of doing business for them.

This -

As the motions passed, one woman exclaimed in the quiet courtroom: “The law is perverted! The law is perverted!”

…and then this…

“We took a stand for lawful, credible elections appropriate for the owners of this republic, we the people,” said Forestieri at the courthouse.

These people just really, fundamentally do not understand how American democracy works, do they?!? “Let’s ban everything we don’t like because we own this republic.” Republicans have effectively banned high school civics class, haven’t they! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! And a danger to the republic.

Consider the possible outcome if not a majority of democrats on the presiding board. As stalin said, it matters who counts the votes.
